Religion and Sexuality

Each religion has their own perspective on sexuality in this world. So for now, these are major known and popular religion in the earth, Christianity, Islam, Judaism, Hindu, Buddhism and more. All these religions make marriage as important and sex is important for life. But, they also have some legal codes for themselves to keep their community and religion under control from chaos. In common, all religion says, having an illegal sexual relationship with other than the married wife is against their laws and God hates it. In Islam, men allowed to marry any religion women or from any country. Having sex in your life is SIN or Sexting AKA Sex Chat is SIN?. Seriously?. Hmm, that’s what few groups of people think and decided to be nuns and monks.

There are different myths about NUNS,

  • Nuns marry Jesus
  • Nuns are ordained
  • The church financially supports nuns
  • Nuns are holier than other people
  • All Nuns are lesbians ( Check the movie, WOLF OF THE WALL STREET )

No, nuns are not actually married to Jesus. It’s a form of figurative speech to say nuns are the spouses of Christ. In reality, as members of the Church, the Bride of Christ, we are all called to be “spouses” of Christ. Now since religious have taken vows not to marry a human spouse so that they may focus on Lord, they are an external witness to that unity with Christ to which we are all called. Their celibacy enables them to “thinketh on the things of the Lord” (1 Cor. 7:34) and is an encouragement and example to us non-religious of the detachment we should have from creatures and the attachment of love we should have for Christ.

“In the consecrated life particular importance attaches to the spousal meaning, which recalls the Church’s duty to be completely and exclusively devoted to her Spouse, from whom she receives every good thing. This spousal dimension, which is part of all consecrated life, has a particular meaning for women, who find therein their feminine identity and as it discovered the special genius of their relationship with the Lord.” (Vita Consecrata, no. 34)

To sum up, the religious more perfectly lives the spousal relationship with Jesus to which we are all called as members of the Church, the Bride of Christ. Nevertheless, the terms marriage, spouse, *spousal, *etc. are only symbolic terms used to describe spiritual realities?

According to quora.com question and answer :

Is it a sin to have sex (man) before marriage according to the Holy Quran and the Islamic rules of religion?

The answer is definitely yes. Sex before marriage is forbidden as well as having relationship like boyfriend and girlfriend (dating). In Islam, true love comes after marriage so if you are in a relationship with your girlfriend and want to have sex with her, it’s not love. It’s lust.

As muslims we should lower our gaze to the opposite sex. For example, I’m a muslim woman, I wear hijab and cover my whole body. I don’t want people (men) see the curves of my body that will probably trigger men to think and do something sexually. Men are visual creatures so they will easily get turn on when they see hot and sexy woman in front of them and that’s why muslim women have to cover their body. One of the main reason why we wear hijab is to protect ourself as well. We only show our beauty to our husband. We dress up nicely for him, only.

So what are you supposed to do when you have emotional eagerness in having sex? The answer is very simple. It’s either you marry someone or restrain your desire untill you ready enough to marry. I know it’s not that easy but it’s worth to wait. You need to get closer to Allah and try to control yourself.

Why Muslims Can Marry more than 1 times?

This verse is misunderstood by many, including many Muslims. Here is what the Quran says about this:

[4:3] If you deem it best for the orphans, you may marry their mothers – you may marry two, three, or four. If you fear lest you become unfair, then you shall be content with only one, or with what you already have. Additionally, you are thus more likely to avoid financial hardship.

This is something which God has allowed in the Quran so that orphans will be cared for. Obviously in times of war, there are going to be many men killed, and so there are many more women and their children without a husband to provide for them than there are men available. Without this provision, there would not be enough men to take care of all of these orphaned families. However, God does not restrict this provision to war time, it is there for whenever it is deemed best for the children.

So a man cannot marry more than one woman for just any reason, only if their father is dead. Some will twist this into a license to marry more than one woman for their own desires and try to justify it with scripture, but in reality that would be against what God has commanded and the reasons He allowed it. God’s commands are not some checklist of do this don’t do that. Everything which is allowed or not allowed is always for the good of human beings and society, and those of who trust in God trust in His reasons.

Peace be upon you all! 🙂
