Why do we get attached to people who don’t even give us the same energy?

We’re not always attached to the person.
Sometimes, we’re attached to how they made us feel.

We get addicted to their attention, their messages, their presence… and slowly convince ourselves that we need them to be happy.

But the moment you learn to enjoy your own company, something changes.
You stop chasing.
You stop expecting.
You stop taking every little thing personally.

And that’s when you realize…
peace feels very different when you’re no longer begging someone else to give it to you.

What’s harder for you — letting go of a person, or letting go of the version of yourself you were with them?

Nice thoughts!!

Its human nature, when we find someone close enough regularly we get attached. Let it be friendship or romantically or even respectfully, but this attachment may cultivate possessiveness, if you don't get similar vibes from other person. That's the time to stop and retrospect ... as you rightly said stop chasing, expecting ... just keep faith in yourself and everything changes around. Some people may find you crazy, egoistic also but its deliberate decision that you are embracing yourself rather than being around someone.

I feel, letting go of a person is probably easier than letting go of your own version with them.

Letting go is painful, be it a person or your version of yourself with them, yet it is not difficult.
The memories of time spent together, the laughs, cries, and fights; the sweet hugs and silence shared—make you miss that, and it makes you tear up.
We do not wish to go back, knowing well why we moved on, but the pain is always real.

That question at the end hits right in the core. Letting go of the version of yourself you were with them is 10x harder than letting go of the person. Beautiful perspective! "

Let it go rather than losing yourself and being a joke or villian of someones life
