I’m sitting alone on my balcony this Saturday evening, slowly sipping my black coffee and watching the sky turn red. There is something about evenings that has always made me feel a little heavy inside. Maybe because every evening is a quiet reminder that something is coming to an end. No matter how beautiful the day was, we still have to watch it disappear. Today, the sunset doesn’t look peaceful to me. The sun looks like a wound in the sky, bleeding its last light before it disappears. Somehow, it feels as if the sky knows something about my pain. It is hurting too, but it doesn’t complain. It simply burns quietly and lets the evening take its light away.
Maybe that is why watching it gives me a little comfort. Sitting here with my coffee, I feel like the sky is reminding me that even beautiful things have to leave sometimes. People leave, moments pass, some relationships change, and some memories stay with us long after the people who gave them to us are gone. We often hold on because we are afraid of the emptiness that comes after letting go. But sometimes, there is nothing left to hold. All we can do is accept that something beautiful has reached its end and allow ourselves to feel the pain of it. It is okay to miss it. It is okay to hurt. It is okay if a part of us still wishes it had stayed. Letting go doesn’t mean we stop caring; sometimes, it simply means we understand that we cannot make everything stay.
Soon, the sky will become dark. The red will disappear, and no one will be able to stop it. But maybe that is the beauty of it. The sunset doesn’t fight the night; it simply lets go. Maybe I need to learn that too... to let go without hating what I lost, to remember without asking it to come back, and to believe that even after the darkest evening, there will still be a morning waiting for me. Some goodbyes leave wounds, some leave memories, but with time, perhaps even the deepest pain becomes a quiet part of who we are. So tonight, with the last sip of my black coffee, I’ll just sit here and watch the sky fade, and maybe, for the first time, I’ll let something beautiful leave without trying to hold it back.
