I know people make mistakes, and sometimes they deserve another chance. But not every wound needs the same hand that caused it to heal. When someone chooses to hurt you, they also choose to walk away from the trust you gave them.
Forgiveness doesn't always mean letting someone back into your life. Sometimes, it simply means letting go without carrying hatred in your heart.
Because the person who broke your peace cannot always be the person you allow back into your life to find it.

I understand the thought behind this. But I also believe not every broken connection has to end with a permanently closed door.

Sometimes, if there was genuine care, forgiveness can leave a little space for understanding and another chance. ​

That is a beautiful perspective, but I feel that if the care was truly genuine, they wouldn't have left halfway in the first place. The hardest part about a second chance is the broken trust. How do we open that door again when we already know they are capable of walking out? Giving them another chance feels like risking the same heartbreak all over again.

Very true... Forgiveness is a gift we give ourselves so we can move forward. Trust, on the other hand, is a privilege they lost, and sometimes the time for earning it back has permanently passed.

I understand why you feel that way. If it was a narcissistic or manipulative person, then yes, closing the door may be the best choice.

But I was looking at it differently, sometimes the care can be genuine, yet people still make mistakes or don't know how to handle things. In that case, I feel a second chance can be worth giving, just to see if things can be different this time. ​
