Always thought this song was written for the placement season because it perfectly captured the college experience. Back then, if you missed companies in June, there was always hope—July was coming, and with it, new opportunities.
But the lyrics resonate with me much more now.
If your first love, your "June," doesn't turn out to be right for you, there's always a "July" waiting. And beyond July, there are many more months, days, hours, people, and experiences still ahead.
What strikes me most is how differently I understood these lyrics at different stages of life.
During college, there was always someone. Sometimes it was:

Love happened, but friendships suffered
And now it feels more like:

Friendships remain, but love is missing.
