#Impact of Social Media on Youth

BiggBoss

Wellknown Ace
Social media has become an inseparable part of young people’s lives. Platforms like Instagram, YouTube, and Snapchat are used daily for communication, entertainment, and learning. Its impact on youth is powerful, bringing both positive and negative effects.

Positive Impacts

Social media helps youth stay connected with friends and family, even across long distances. It also provides access to educational content, tutorials, and global knowledge. Many students learn new skills such as coding, art, or public speaking through online videos and communities. It also gives young people a platform to express their ideas, creativity, and talents.
Another important benefit is awareness. Social media spreads information about social issues, health, and global events quickly, helping youth become more informed and socially responsible.

Negative Impacts

However, excessive use of social media can harm mental and physical health. Many young people compare themselves with others online, which can lower self-esteem and create stress or anxiety. Addiction to scrolling and screen time can also reduce focus on studies and real-life interactions.
Cyberbullying is another serious issue, where hurtful comments or messages can affect emotional well-being. Moreover, spending too much time online can disturb sleep patterns and reduce physical activity.

Conclusion¥
Social media is a powerful tool that can shape the future of youth. Its impact depends on how it is used. If used wisely and in moderation, it can be highly beneficial. However, misuse can lead to serious problems. Therefore, young people should maintain a balance between online and offline life to make the most of social media.

We compare our own lives to the 'highlights' of others' lives on digital screens, which is actually a barrier to our peace of mind. Social media should be used as a source of information, not as a yardstick for our own existence.

correct we should also aware from false information

Totally agree, comparing our real lives to their highlight reels is a fast track to feeling down. I stick to gathering info too, not measuring myself.

Social media is neither completely good nor bad; it depends on how we use it.

It can open doors to knowledge, creativity, and connection.

But too much of it can quietly steal our time, peace, and focus.

The real skill is knowing when to connect online and when to live of fine

What I have learned from being an avid user of social media to one who deleted all social media accounts.

Social media takes up a lot of your productive time and energy, giving an illusion of accomplishment. It robs you of real, meaningful connections. You become attached to your own online version of make-believe and also feel you have many friends online. But the truth is that the few friends who really matter to you lose contact with you.

Not all meals are for posting, nor are all vacations. Most things we experience are private and personal. To post them takes away the feeling and replaces it with the anxiety of likes and comments.

You try to copy trends, losing authenticity.

Once off social media, I meet people, talk to them, and only have a few friends, but we go to have unplanned ice cream or drive around at night. We sit quietly without talking. My life has been much more fulfilling and happy since I am living in only one world: the real and physical one.

For learning, read a book or join a class. What you can at most learn on social media is half-baked knowledge or tricks that are not even needed.

Some may find social media informative, but to get one meaningful thing, how much garbage has to be sorted through when it is readily available on relevant websites or in a library?
