In my opinion, the geographic location of Tamil Nadu itself can be held responsible for its "unique blend of cuisines ".

I mean how diverse can it get ?
Ranging from the wonderful traditional food of the tribes in the Nilgiris, traveling through the plains and ending in the coastal cuisine, you get to feast yourself with different tastes in different districts of the state.

As if that wasn't enough, every region has it's own food specialty. There are by far 4 major regions that differ by their cuisines.

The Chettinad cuisine is very well known for both its vegetarian and non vegetarian dishes paniyarams, suzhiums, idiyaapam,Pepper Chicken etc.image.jpg

While Madurai and further south, dishes made with maida, like parotta are loved by the people. The parotta itself is prepared in a number of ways and has a different name in different places.

On the other hand the Nanjil nadu which is the region of Kanyakumari district and its surroundings have a major influence by the Kerala cuisine owing to the location again where the ingredients like coconut oil and coconut itself are used in day to day cooking.

The western Kongunadu has its own specialties which are more inclined towards the pulses as it consists of plains in majority.
