Favoured Frenzy
Looking through the trees
Standing in their welcoming shade
Seduced by a beautiful melodious breeze
Creating by the rustling leaves
The majesty of these elder trees
Standing tall through the years
Touched me with their grandeur
Withstanding the storms of life
I rubbed my hand across the aging bark
Feeling life pulsing within the trunk
Hope sprang immediately in my soul
Strength flowing into timeless longevity
Memory flashes saw me climbing a tree
Swinging from a swing attached to it’s branches
A young girl with hopes and dreams
Years yet to grow into each of them
Watching squirrels scamper up among the limbs
Building their home within its ample branches
Birds building nests in the sheltering mass of leaves
Sustaining the gift of life for these creatures
Standing here among the trees I hear their whispers
I am gifted with the presence of their ancient souls
A feeling of sorrow for the ones that were felled
And a grateful heart that I could stand here among these survivors
