I was walking down the streets of Kolkata when I saw an old Lady selling Muri and Chops for ₹10.

I suggested “Why don’t you also start selling Chai? People would love to have it along with Chops and Muri and you can increase your products and sales!”

Sounded brilliant to me! That’s what I had learned in my College “Earn money from various sources”

She told me “Bhaiya, mere baaju Mei ek Chai wala hai. Agar mai chai bechungi toh wo kya krega?! Uska pura ghar bas Chai ke bharose chalta hai!!

(There is a man who sells tea beside me. If I start selling it, what will he sell? His whole family depends on it!)

I was dumbstruck!!

Today, I learned that it is not a market, where people think: Let me start this business, extend my brand to multiple products and capture a higher market share!

These guys know that to Co-exist you need to fulfill everyone’s needs and not be selfish in filling your stomach. A street entrepreneur knows when it is enough!!

I agree with your words but not everyone can afford to do all kinds of business. It depends on his capital to start then if profit is good he can move to something else it depends on him. Then everyone can't do everything...

Yes, its the mindset of people that matters. In India, there is potential for all type of businesses however each should have its own space. In your example even if that lady started selling tea it might not be that much tasty as the Chaiwala since he has been selling Chai for all these years. So there is an entrepreneur in everyone but it is important to identify the area of strength to start a business. There are ppl with varied skill sets and the businesses they start will definitely coexist in the market place.
