Chapter 36: Colkeeth
Loki flew up high above the trees, a few moments later he flew back down circling landing on Neko’s outstretched hand “Path west!”
“Hmm, west it is…” Neko muttered. He searched the bandits pockets and satchels, find some some gold coins, and a few small gems he pocketed them, found some fire torches and oil, “Those might come in handy…” Next was the roast boar on a spit that Kristolia was trying to knock to the ground.
He chuckled and walked, grabbing a leg of the roasted boar for himself, he knocked the rest on the floor for the wolves, who happily tucked in, Loki turned his nose and refused the meat.
A few moments later after the fire was put out they all set off heading through the forest to find the path they were on.
A few hours later they were there back on the path, Santaya a few feet ahead was sniffing the ground. As Neko caught up he saw droplets of blood dried on the ground, he scuffed his foot on the floor to hide the dried blood and they continued to walk on. Not wanting to risk any more surprises they continued to walk on through the night.
Two days later they came across the portside town, Colkeeth, it was the early hours of the morning, traders were filing through the large portcullis at the end of a drawbridge. The town was bustling, slowly walking with the crowd. There was a few gasps as people saw the wolves walking next to him. “Stay calm girls!” He whispered.
They finally arrived at the portcullis but found their path blocked by some guards who were eyeing the wolves up suspiciously.
“I am a Priest travelling east, I assure you my companions mean no harm and are of no danger to anyone.”
“Oh, a priest, yeh?” Said one of the guards gruffly. “An what does t’priest want from ‘ere?”
“A horse and some supplies.” Neko responded calmly, Santaya and Kristolia just sat by his side and watched, Loki perched on his shoulder with his head under his wings.
“Whatever… go on, and no trouble or else!” The guards passed and let him through.
They walked through, then suddenly Loki looked up, spread his wings and took off without saying a word, Neko watched him fly off and disappear over the roofs of the buildings. “Well I guess it’s just us three now” He commented, patting the wolves on their heads.
“Excuse me, please could you tell me where the stables are?” He asked a passerby, the lady looked him up and down and then pointed to a large building with a yellow banner and walked away without saying a word. “Ok, thank you!” Neko called after her, a little confused.
He walked forward casually looking around, coming across a stall that sold thin bed rolls, flints, and pans, with some wooden spoons. After speaking to the merchant for a few minutes, he’d haggled the price from 15 gold pieces down to 9. Satisfied he carried his items away and then came to a stall that was selling shouldered knapsacks. Neko chose a light brown one with dark brown leather piping and straps, and paid 10 gold pieces. He put his pans, wooden spoons, torches, oils and other small items inside it, then pulled the straps over his shoulder.
“Now for the stables.” He muttered, walking into the stables he saw Oxes, Bulls, Donkey’s, Horses, and some weird animal with a smallish body and a long neck, he saw one of the weird-long-neck animals spit at a passerby, “Nopes, I’m staying well away from that!” And headed straight to the horses, he looked around carefully amazed at all the different sizes and colours of the horses. He came across a tall proud dapple grey mare, that at a distance looked as white as snow, with a soft light grey mane and tail. “You are beautiful!” He said softly reaching up to gently pat the horse's neck.
“Aye, that be a beauty, she is.” An old man stepped out of the stable, with a brush in his hand. “An’ a fine eye yer got there sonny Jim!”
“Is she for sale? If so, I'd like to buy her please.”
“Aye she be f’sale, but untame she be, a stubborn lassie this one.”
“That’s ok.” Neko said, stroking the horse's neck. “I like a challenge!”
“Hmm… 70 gold pieces, with an extra 30 if you need tack and saddle!”
“You’ve got a deal, Sir!” Nekonata counts out 100 gold pieces and hands them to the old man, much to the old man's surprise.
“I’ll get her prepped for you right now Sir, and thank ye very much.”
Nekonata waited patiently, and watched while making mental notes on how to put the tack and saddle on the horse. Once ready the old man handed him the reins, and Neko went to climb on to the saddle but the horse shifted. “It’s ok” Neko said, patting the horse’s neck again, “It’s ok!” He tried for a second time, the horse snorted and shifted. People around stopped what they were doing to watch, pointing and laughing at him struggling.
Neko stood in front of the horse, his eyes flashed purple all but for a brief second but the horse noticed and it bowed its head. Nekonata stood there confused for a moment, but he tried climbing into the saddle again, this time successful. “Hmm… Thank you, friend. I think I will name you… Kimbo!”
Nekonata sat up straight in the saddles, he looked down at Santaya and Kristolia. “Are you ready girls?” The both stretched leaning on to their front paws, tails wagging. “Ok then, let's go.”
Slowly and carefully he meandered through Colkeeth and left the portside town through the north entrance. Once clear of the town and on the fields he leaned down and whispered into Kimbo’s ear, “Would you like to show us how fast you can run?”
The horse snickered, scraped it’s hoof on the floor and suddenly charged forward, the rush of wind whipping past him ruffling through his hair made him laugh and cheer loudly, he glanced behind and saw Santi and Kristi running as fast as they could after him barely keeping up. Neko patted Kimbo on her neck, “Slow down my friend.”

Chapter 37: Squirrels Loki took off from Nekonata’s shoulder, with a few gusts of his winds he was high over the rooftops, glancing back he saw the boy looking at him confused, until he was out of view. Flying as fast as he could out of the portside town and over a rolling field of crops. A...
