---

In the dense Amazon forests of Colombia, the river water flows continuously. There is dense greenery all around. Tall, thick trees surround everything. Sunlight barely reaches here. The river water flows ahead, passing through the stones.

Suddenly, the clear river water begins to turn red. Following the red flow, we see a man ( ) sitting there. He is wearing old clothes. A gun is slung over his shoulder and he holds a knife in his hand, with which he is cutting something. Moving closer, it becomes clear that the man is cutting a human being with the knife. Two dead bodies lie around him. An old torn handkerchief is tied to his hand, stained with old blood spots and wounds. Perhaps he himself killed the bodies lying there. There is no expression on his face.

This man has no emotion on his face. He continues to cut the dead men into as many pieces as he can with the knife. The sound of someone approaching comes from the distant trees. A beautiful girl emerges, pushing aside the leaves of the trees. She too is wearing old clothes covered in dust and dirt. She stands at a distance and watches the man. There was no emotion in the girl’s eyes, but there was great peace.

Hearing the sound of her footsteps, he turns around and looks briefly. Then we see that the person has a very large scar over one eye, like a cut from an animal’s claw or some sharp object. He stands up, bends down, grabs the heads of the two men he killed by their hair, and lifts them up. Seeing this, a slight smile appears on the girl’s face and she goes back into the dense trees. The man also puts his knife in his pants pocket and walks towards the girl, holding the heads.

At night, we see the jungle man and the girl sitting together inside a house. Their house was in the dense jungle, made of wood and leaves. There was an old lamp lit inside. The girl asks the man, “Father, will he kill us too, like Mommy?” Then we come to know that the person is none other than the girl’s father. The girl’s name was Isla and the man’s name was Carlos. Both of them had built a house far away from the tribes and people of Colombia’s Amazon jungle and lived there.

Isla’s father, while cleaning his gun, says, “Don’t be afraid, child. After your mother left, I have eliminated more than half the people in the jungle who could have been a danger to you.” Then he goes and sits near Isla, places his hand on her head and says, “You made very good food. Come, let’s sleep now.” Saying this, her father goes to check outside the door, then closes it.

In the morning, Isla is playing outside the house. Her father wakes up from sleep, comes there and tells her, “It will take me time to return today. Don’t go anywhere far from the house. You know how the people of this jungle are. If you go near them, they will kill you just like they killed your mother.”

Isla says, “No father, I am not going anywhere leaving you.” And she stands up, hugging his legs. Isla was very innocent and straightforward and she loved her father very much.

On the other side, we see a very old tribe under the open sky. The head of the tribe was an elderly woman named Chia. Her body had marks and many tattoos. She looked quite old. People from her group were sitting around her.

Under Chia in their tribe, there was also a junior leader named Sugamuxi. Sugamuxi says, “Mother.” Here everyone called Chia “Mother.” He continues, “Mother, what is happening… all the people of our allied tribes have been wiped out, and I have also heard news of mysterious deaths in other tribes. What is this exactly?”

Then Chia looks towards the sky and says, “Something unnatural is about to happen.” She puts her hand on Sugamuxi’s shoulder and says, “Perhaps she has returned, to take her revenge.” Hearing this, Sugamuxi’s eyes remain wide open. Sugamuxi starts breathing heavily and begins to drink water.

Chia goes and stands in the middle of the tribe. She has a stick in her hand. She starts striking the ground hard two-three times.

Chia says, “Listen, people of your tribe.” There are tears in her eyes. She says, “Do not separate from each other and we must deliver this message to the other tribes as soon as possible.”

Then a woman there asks, “Mother, what happened?” Mother says, crying, “The real Mother of this jungle has returned.” Hearing this, the entire tribe shivers.

Mother continues, “Once she was our Mother, Madremonte, but someone from our own people harmed Madremonte and she left this jungle forever. Now she has returned with a feeling of revenge. And just as she used to listen to us before, perhaps now she will not. When she was here, we were all very happy. This jungle was lush green, there were so many tribes, there was happiness. Everything left with her.” She becomes disappointed after saying this.

It is deep night in the jungle. Here we see Sugamuxi and 4-5 of his companions. Far from the tribe, a river flows. There is a very old tree and under it is a broken old wooden house. Cut heads of goats and glasses of water were lying near it.

One of the men says to Sugamuxi, “Leader… we had made a very big mistake, but we have also done a lot to compensate for it and we are still doing it. Then why is Madremonte angry with us?”

Sugamuxi looks towards the house, sits down on his knees in despair and starts crying bitterly, “Mother, I made a mistake, but why are you punishing all these people for it? If you have to kill, then kill me.” And he starts beating his hands and feet on the ground.

The accompanying people stop Sugamuxi and say in fear and sorrow, “Crying is of no use, Leader. We have to think about what to do next.”

Just then, smoke is seen rising from the distant jungle. A very terrible fire has broken out there. Sugamuxi says, “That’s where our allied tribe lives.” And all of them run anxiously towards the fire.

Reaching the spot, these people quickly start looking for water nearby. But the fire was so intense that nothing was visible due to the smoke. Their eyes were burning. Screams and cries of people were coming from inside the fire.

Just then a very large burning tree falls towards Sugamuxi and his companions, and these people run away from there in fear. They were all panting heavily and were terrified. While running, one of them says, “Leader, we should tell Chia… because of our mistake, all our people are dying.”

At night, Isla’s father was in their makeshift house. He was sleeping. Carlos opens his eyes and looks where Isla used to sleep, but Isla is not there now. The door in front is open and the glow of fire is visible in the distance.

Seeing this, a slight smile appears on Carlos’s face and he turns over and goes back to sleep. After some time, Isla comes there. Her entire body was drenched in sweat. She was panting and goes back to her place and sleeps.

Morning light breaks. Here people from every tribe have gathered together. Each tribe has its own leader. But after Madremonte, Chia was the leader of all the tribes in the jungle. Everyone called her Mother too because Madremonte always worked through her.

No one could easily see or talk to Madremonte. The tribes of the entire jungle could fight among themselves as much as they wanted, but they all had great respect for Madremonte. Madremonte had no form. She was like a spirit. She had been residing in the generations of one family in this elderly woman’s tribe.

But an incident happened in this jungle because of which Madremonte got angry and left her jungle forever.

Chia now steps forward. All the people are sitting bowed before her. She says, “Listen, all of you… we all know what is happening in the jungle now and why it is happening.” She says somewhat disappointedly, “If this continues, we will all be killed.”

Then a leader from another tribe says, “Mother… you had a very good relationship with Madremonte. Then even on your request, will she not forgive us?”

Thinking this, Chia closes her eyes, takes a deep breath and says, “In harsh words, one of us has disappointed our Mother and betrayed the one who has protected our jungle, our ancestors, and families for so many years. Then why would she listen to me?”

The leader of the other tribe says, “Mother, what should we do now?”

Chia continues, “We will have to perform a very big ritual to call Madremonte back to us. And after she comes, I myself will go to her and ask her to forgive all our people and protect the jungle.”

Then a leader from another tribe says, “How is this possible… you also know that Madremonte has always resided in the bodies of the girls of your tribe and your bloodline. She always chose the body of a pure woman with a sacred heart from your bloodline. After that woman’s marriage and death, she would reside in her daughter. You also know that the last woman of your bloodline in whom Madremonte used to come was killed by someone. And she had no daughter. Then in whose body will Madremonte come?”

Then Chia says, “You all know, Madremonte is already among us and she is giving us the punishment for the sins committed by one of us. She will definitely come. All of you prepare.” And saying this, she starts looking at the sky.

All the tribes started preparations for the ritual in the jungle. Many sheep and goats have been brought to the jungle. Lamps are lit everywhere with fire. All the people are sitting in a circle and in the middle stands Chia. Drums made of animal skins are being played around and songs are being played with musical instruments made of old bones.

Meanwhile, Sugamuxi and his companions were standing sadly. There was fear and terror in their minds because they had hidden something. They were thinking that if Madremonte comes and tells everyone what they had done in front of all the tribes and people, then these people will throw their families out of the jungle or eliminate all of them.

Then his companion says, “Leader, let’s tell Chia before our secret becomes known to everyone.”

At that moment, Sugamuxi gets up and goes to Chia and whispers in her ear, “Mother… I have something very important to tell you… please come.”

Hearing this, Chia says, “It is time for the ritual. We cannot waste time.”

Sugamuxi says, “I have to tell you something about Madremonte. We made a mistake.” Hearing this, Chia looks at Sugamuxi in surprise and signals everyone, saying, “Continue your work, we are coming.”

Chia and Sugamuxi go to a quiet place nearby. There Sugamuxi asks Chia to sit and falls at her feet, holding them, and says…

“Mother… you know that Madremonte’s spirit used to come into ‘Mayra’.”

Then tears fill Chia’s eyes and her face becomes completely calm. She looks at Sugamuxi and says, “Yes…”

Sugamuxi says, “Mother, please forgive me for what I am going to say next.” And he starts crying and says, “I loved Mayra very much… and I could never tell Mayra this. I was very sad when Mayra decided to marry that Carlos. I was completely broken inside. I loved her a lot… I did not want her to leave me and us and go anywhere. If she had married anyone in our tribe, she would have stayed among us. She chose the wrong man.

I called Mayra with the help of my companions to our ancestors’ old temple far from the river to confess my love. I told my companions to lie to Mayra that… a poisonous animal bit me in the jungle and when she comes here, I will tell her everything in my heart. I also told my companions that if her husband stops her from coming or comes in between, kill him.”

Saying this, he starts crying and tears also start flowing from Chia’s eyes.

Then Sugamuxi continues, “That day, as per my instructions, my companions go to Mayra’s house to call her, but her husband stops her from going… then a scuffle breaks out between my companions and her husband and during this fight, one of my companions injures Mayra’s husband on the face with a sharp knife… and then Mayra starts shouting at them angrily while crying, due to which my companions get scared and run away from there and come to me.

After hearing the whole thing, I panicked. I and my companions thought we would go to Mayra as soon as possible and apologize for our mistake… we all go to Mayra’s house and I see Mayra lying on the ground writhing and crying, with a lot of blood coming out of her mouth. I and my companions go to help her but before that Mayra dies.

We all got scared. Then her husband comes out of the house shouting and crying and says, ‘You all together killed my Mayra. Ever since Mayra married me, you tribespeople have never liked it. You have always kept us apart. Because of you all, Mayra had to stay away from her family and tribe. And you all are responsible for her death. I will go and tell this in your tribe.’

We all get scared and since her husband might reveal the secret in front of everyone, we kill him, threaten him and tell him to leave from there. Then he leaves his house, picks up his belongings in a bag on his back and goes away from there.”

Now Sugamuxi closes his eyes and was very sad. Then Chia looks at him. Then Sugamuxi says, “Whatever punishment you want to give me and my friends, we accept it, but please stop this ritual otherwise our families will also get punishment for our mistake…”

There Chia says, “I want to tell you one thing… you know that one year before Mayra’s marriage, Madremonte had already come into Mayra’s body and she had told me that she was unhappy with Mayra’s decision.

She had told that ever since this Carlos first saw Mayra, Madremonte had felt that this Carlos’s intentions were not good… he was from the city and had urban tools and things with which he used to help Mayra and keep her happy… he did a lot to win Mayra’s heart… like making boats, catching fish, treating wounds, modern treatment methods… Mayra was very simple and innocent… she didn’t even realize when this Carlos used to touch her in dirty ways… she was very innocent… Mayra got so lost in his love that she forgot the treatments told by Madremonte and started taking advice from this stranger Carlos because his treatments were quite modern… Mayra had stopped meeting Chia…

Madremonte had also told that when Mayra used to sleep, their attention was on this Carlos and his words…

Madremonte further told that she had heard that this Carlos had been thrown out of his country Venezuela. He was an army officer who used to take money from other countries and betray his own country, due to which he was thrown out from there… and somehow with the help of his other criminal companions, he came to our country Colombia and started living here hiding… and he saw how the tribespeople took decisions by listening to Madremonte and all the work of the jungle got done… because of this, Carlos became greedy. He tried many times to ask Mayra how he could make himself more powerful but Mayra used to laugh at this. She could never understand this person.

Madremonte wanted Mayra not to marry this Carlos. She had said that Mayra would have to choose between Madremonte and this Carlos. If Mayra chose this Carlos, then Madremonte would leave this jungle forever…”

Chia tells, “Before Mayra’s marriage could happen, she died. Then I don’t know why Madremonte left angrily… you say you attacked that Carlos but she herself never liked him. Then I don’t know why Madremonte got upset with us and left…

Hearing this, Sugamuxi gets surprised, stops crying and says, “Mother, this could also be the reason that Mayra died by eating poison in despair and frustration from us, that’s why Madremonte left…”

Chia says, “Even if that had happened, she would have definitely told me once, but one year before Mayra’s marriage day, I never spoke to Madremonte…” Then she says, “Perhaps the truth is that Mayra chose Carlos between Madremonte and that Carlos. Maybe that’s why Madremonte left. But one more thought comes that after so much time why has Madremonte returned… and why is she harming us…

We have to perform this ritual.” She puts her hand on Sugamuxi’s shoulder and tells him to stand up. Chia further says, “Don’t be afraid… I don’t think Madremonte is angry with you or us. Her anger is due to some other reason…”

All the people gather again for the ritual. Now it had slowly become dark. Animals are prepared for sacrifice there. Garlands were put around their necks. Goats and sheep were to be sacrificed here.

All the people here had put jungle grass on their heads and masks on their faces. Only Chia had nothing on her face. Now leaders of every tribe come one by one and sacrifice the animals. And everywhere there, where people stood in a circle, it had become covered with blood. Heads of animals and fruits were lying there.

Then Chia starts chanting mantras. And all the people of the tribes start crying loudly. All these people were crying with pure hearts. Today there was no enmity among any tribes or people. They were only thinking about the jungle. Everyone had put on masks on their faces after the sacrifice. There was only one thought in these people’s minds today — may our jungle, our family all be happy and our Madremonte return to us.

Now these people sit on their knees and while crying, start banging their heads hard on the ground. Chia’s eyes had also become red from crying and she kept chanting mantras — “O Madremonte, why did you leave us. We were your children. What mistake did we make that you got angry with your own children. Forgive us if we made any mistake… You were always with us, always gave advice to me and my ancestors for our welfare. Why have you become upset today?”

Suddenly cold winds start blowing there. Strongly. All the people were still crying there. No one cared about this wind. They had lost their loved ones and were sad because of Madremonte’s departure. The sky had suddenly become black. Black clouds started covering the moon. Along with the crying of the tribes, the sound of winds and trees and leaves, everything seemed to be crying together.

Suddenly the burning torches there get extinguished. And Chia’s eyes go to those torches.

Then we see Isla sleeping near her father. Suddenly she starts shivering from cold and sweat starts coming on her body. Her father looks at her and tries to lift Isla but Isla does not open her eyes. She keeps her eyes closed and starts writhing. Her breathing had become very fast.

Then a strong gust of wind filled with dust enters the house and her father clears his eyes and looks, then he sees that Isla has disappeared. And a strong gust of wind went through the trees. Her father quickly takes his gun in hand and goes out to follow her.

Chia was continuing to chant mantras. Suddenly she feels a heaviness near her. It was dark all around. Then in the darkness she sees — a beautiful girl is looking from between the trees. Her eyes are deep green and her entire body is glowing. She slowly comes towards Chia, passing through the space among the tribes. This beautiful girl was none other than Isla.

Seeing this, Chia starts crying. And with the help of mantras she tells all the tribes, “Do not remove your masks. Our Mother has come.” Hearing this, everyone starts crying together. Sugamuxi says in his mind, “Forgive my mistake, Mother.” His companions were also asking for forgiveness in their minds.

Chia was surprised that Mayra’s marriage had not happened and who is this girl through whom Madremonte has come to us.

Isla’s body was glowing more than before. Sweat and the fragrance of jungle water and trees and leaves were coming from her.

Then Chia sits on her knees and says, “Mother… you…” and she starts crying bitterly and says, “Why did you get upset with us… why did you leave us and go…”

Then Madremonte says, “Yes, I was angry with all of you… I always thought for those for whom when I asked for something, I did not get it. I was very sad about that thing. And what I had asked for was also for the welfare of the jungle.”

Chia says, “Mother, tell us what mistake we made…”

Then Madremonte says, “The mistake was not from all of you but from Mayra… I had told Mayra about that Carlos that this person is not right for our jungle… Mayra did not know that this person’s intention was to acquire my powers through Mayra. But you know I can never use my powers for any wrong work or to harm anyone…”

Chia says, “Mother, then who was committing the murders in this jungle… countless of our people have been killed, the condition of rivers, trees and plants in the jungle is bad…”

Then Madremonte says, “I did not do all this. This has all been done by that Carlos whom Mayra fell in love with… he knew that when his truth started coming out in front of everyone, his marriage with Mayra would not happen. Because of this, he had started distracting Mayra daily. He used to show Mayra as if he was right and all of us were wrong… and because of this, he had physical relations with Mayra and fathered a daughter before marriage… that is her, Isla.

Before the birth of this child, I had asked Mayra, ‘Tell me Mayra… do you want to stay with me or with this Carlos.’ Then Mayra, blinded by love, chose this Carlos and then had illegitimate relations with him. Because of that, feeling disappointed, I left from here…”

Chia says, “Then Mother, why is he committing these murders and harming the jungle?”

Then Madremonte says, “He wanted to harm this jungle so much that I would start residing in Mayra’s daughter’s body and help him in whatever wrong deeds he wants. He was hungry for power… whatever happened after Mayra and me leaving, all of it has been done by this Carlos… I was so angry that I went very far from this jungle in my meditation… when I realized that something very wrong was happening in my jungle, then I had to return…

And let me tell you one thing — Mayra’s death was not because of your tribe but this Carlos himself killed her… this Carlos had incited Mayra against all the people… if on the day of Mayra’s death, Sugamuxi and his companions had met her, Mayra would have known that her tribespeople still loved her the same… and Mayra’s attention would have returned to her family and her people… Mayra had stubbornly insisted on going to Sugamuxi after hearing that he was injured and this Carlos stopped her a lot. When she didn’t listen, he lied to Mayra, brought her into his words and made her drink water mixed with poison…”

Chia was shocked after hearing this and there was a lot of anger in her mind for that Carlos. Chia already hated this Carlos. Then she says, “Mother, you stay here with us. Now you will not go anywhere from here. And this daughter of Mayra is our daughter. We will take care of her.”

Then Chia strikes her stick hard on the ground and tells everyone to remove their masks. Then those people get stunned seeing the scene in front of their eyes… this Isla was enchanting everyone. Her eyes, her fragrance… today it was as if everyone had seen Madremonte for the first time.

Then Chia tells all her allied tribes everything that Madremonte had told her. Hearing this, now there was enthusiasm in the people… all the people, filled with anger, ask Madremonte for permission so that they can eliminate the enemy of this jungle…

On the other side, we see that Carlos is talking to someone on a call. He says, “Listen, I have done the work I told you. Now all of you have to do your work together… quickly bring your companions in the helicopter in the middle of the jungle. And kill everyone who comes in between, burn them with bullets. Leave only that Isla… because that power has returned inside that Isla… and seeing the condition of these tribes, she will never leave them alone. We will have to capture that Isla…”

Then Madremonte tells Chia, “All of you stay prepared. A very big trouble is coming. Hide the children and their mothers in caves and secret places… and the rest of the people will have to fight for this jungle.”

Hearing this, Chia gives orders to the tribe as Madremonte had said. Madremonte was giving her information every moment about the trees, plants, ground, and air.

Suddenly helicopters start hovering in the sky. And their loud sounds are heard piercing the winds. Then indiscriminate bullets are fired from these helicopters in the middle of the jungle… and some people are pouring diesel from the helicopters on the jungle trees. They are also trying to burn them by shooting.

Fire slowly starts in the jungle and now the flames of fire are rising very fast. All the people of the tribe are running here and there and some of them are throwing arrows and spears in the air. Some people are making slings together and throwing stones in the air. The entire jungle is echoing with people’s screams, the sound of winds and the sound of bullets.

Seeing all this, Madremonte gets angry and to save her people, she orders the giant trees to fall on the ground in such a way that the jungle people can be saved and go to a safe place. The big trees of the jungle start falling on the ground. These trees were falling in such a way that no harm came to any of the tribe’s people.

For the protection of the jungle, a very strong storm starts blowing in the sky due to which the direction of the helicopters is getting disturbed. They are not able to hit their targets with bullets. Their contact with each other is also breaking.

Madremonte looks towards the sky. Seeing the condition of her jungle… as soon as she looks, dense black clouds start gathering in the sky and it starts raining heavily with lightning. Lightning, piercing the darkness in the sky, falls on these helicopters at Madremonte’s signal… due to which these helicopters lose control and fall to the ground.

As the helicopters fall to the ground, there is an explosion. The people of the jungle tribe take advantage of the opportunity, take their weapons and come near them and surround all the fallen helicopters. They have spears and sharp weapons in their hands. They pull out the living people from the helicopters, tie their hands with ropes and take them to Madremonte.

These people were badly injured due to the helicopter crash. There were blood stains on their heads and legs and the blood was not stopping anywhere… but suddenly heavy firing starts in the middle of the jungle.

There was Carlos, who had a gun in his hand and hand grenades attached to his belt. He throws hand grenades and starts firing indiscriminately… due to which many people of the tribe also get injured and start falling there…

This Carlos somehow reaches near a woman of the tribe. This woman had a small child who was probably a few months old. This man hits the gun hard on the woman’s head and picks up the child in his hands and leaves from there. Then this Carlos puts the gun on the child. The child starts crying loudly. And using this child as a shield, he fires at the people of the tribe who were coming to fight him.

Somehow, with the help of the child, he reaches where Madremonte is standing. There his companions had been taken captive. There was a lot of anger in Madremonte’s eyes for this person.

Chia standing there conveys Madremonte’s order to Carlos. She says, “You will never be able to fulfill your wrong intentions…” She immediately orders to keep this child safe and sound.

But this Carlos, without getting scared at all, says, “Listen old woman, I have no interest in talking to you. If your Madremonte has something to say, she will say it to me… and this Madremonte of yours knows me well. If you make any conspiracy against me, I will finish this child right here…”

The child’s crying was not stopping at all. And these people were thinking something. Then this Carlos fires at Chia.

Seeing this, all the people get angry and start going towards leader Chia. Then he tells all of them to stay away from Chia… and further says, “You all don’t know who I am… and what I can do. Do as I say. This is my daughter, bring her to me…”

Madremonte was helpless. No way was visible to her either. She knew this Carlos could go to any extent.

He says to Madremonte, “Once I acquire you, then I have to take revenge from many people.” And saying this, he starts smiling.

Then Sugamuxi shouts and says, “Aren’t you ashamed! This is the daughter of the Mayra you loved… you have forgotten the father-daughter relationship just for power…”

He says, “You shut up, you worthless! You couldn’t get Mayra even after being from this jungle. Look, I have a daughter with my Mayra and I myself killed that Mayra…”

Hearing this, Sugamuxi gets angry and starts moving towards that Carlos to kill him. Then this Carlos tries to fire his gun at him. Then it turns out that his gun is empty of bullets.

Suddenly a very strong heavy gust of wind blows there and the gun disappears from his hand. When his attention was diverted, Madremonte had taken his gun to herself and thrown it far away.

He holds the child even tighter and the child had become unconscious from crying. All the people were worried…

Then we see something starts happening to this Carlos… his breathing starts becoming very fast… and he starts panting heavily… all these people were watching all this in surprise… and he suddenly falls on the ground.

As soon as he falls, the tribe people come near and take the child away from him… and they quickly go to Chia and try to lift her… but she had died…

Madremonte contacts Sugamuxi and calls him…

That Carlos was groaning and saying, “What have you done to me?” Then Madremonte says, “You forgot that when I had gone away from Mayra, you had killed her by giving her poison. As long as I was there, you could not do anything to her… but you committed so many sins that when I returned to this jungle, how did you think I could put Mayra’s daughter’s life in danger…

Just as you gave poison to Mayra, in the same way I also mixed poison in your food through Mayra’s daughter…”

That Carlos keeps groaning in anger… on the other side, people of another tribe had separated the bodies of his companions from their heads…

Carlos says, “You have defeated me by cheating…” He tries to get up but there he dies writhing…

Suddenly in the jungle the rain and wind stop and fire starts automatically in the extinguished lamps. Sugamuxi now stands near Mayra’s daughter and tells everyone, “Now I will take the responsibility of this daughter’s safety.”

All the people become calm. Now they start burying Chia’s dead body. All the people gather and while crying put flowers and her belongings in Chia’s grave… and slowly start putting soil on her grave. Her entire body gets covered in soil except half of her face.

Then soil falls on one of her eyes and the other eye remains open… and her eyes are green, completely green…
