A few weeks later...
Salazar was at home in his castle working on his latest painting whilst Kate was at the coast standing on the beach staring at the sea. "Ah there you are Mrs Meadow's" said the inspector, "hello again inspector" said Kate, "thanks for meeting me, I'm here to tell you that the investigation into your husband's death has been closed" said the inspector, "I see, thank you for letting me know" said Kate.
"Oh this is for you, it's the only thing we found on him" said the inspector as he handed Kate her dead husband's wedding ring. "Thank you inspector" said Kate as she took the ring, "I'll leave you to it, goodbye Mrs Meadow's" said the inspector, several minutes later the inspector had gone and Kate stood alone on the beach looking at the ring, a short time later she took her own wedding ring off and held it in her hand.
Then a few moments later she threw both ring's out the sea, "I'm free now...." Thought Kate as the ring's splashed into the water and sank to the depths. Half an hour later Kate had returned to the castle and found Salazar finishing his painting, "how's the painting going?" Asked Kate, "it's just about done, just one more brush of paint.." said Salazar as Kate placed her left hand on his left shoulder.
A few seconds later Salazar had finished his painting and turned his head a little, "I see your ring has gone" said Salazar. "Yes I took it off while I'm was at the coast after the inspector gave me Oliver's ring" said Kate, "are you alright?" Asked Salazar, "I'm fine... just a little tired" said Kate, "hmm ok" said Salazar as he looked at his painting admiring his work.
"I like your painting" said Kate, "thank you, you can go get some rest if you want to, I'll be cleaning things up" said Salazar. "Ok I'll be in my room, there is one thing though" said Kate, "yes what is it?" Asked Salazar, "you could have had any woman, why did you choose me?" Asked Kate, Salazar became silent for a few moments and then said "you're right I could have chosen anyone".
"But why me?" Asked Kate, "you're not like all the other women I've met, there was something different about you" Said Salazar. "What do you mean?" Asked Kate, "it's difficult to explain, that day when we met I felt something I didn't understand" said Salazar, "I don't understand" said Kate, Salazar stood up then took Kate's hand and led her to a mirror on the wall.
"Look in the mirror and tell me what you see" said Salazar, "I see I look tired, worn out, old" said Kate, "I see something different Kate" said Salazar. "What do you see?" Asked Kate, "I see kindness, colour, and beauty " said Salazar, what else do you see..?"asked Kate, "your brown eyes are so full of life, your blonde hair shining like gold, you're not old look closer in the mirror and see what I see" said Salazar.
A few moments later Kate smiled a little and said "why are you so nice to me?" Asked Kate, "you deserve to have good things, to be taken care of, to be....loved..." Said Salazar. Kate stood still and continued to look into the mirror as she smiled, "I have to do a few things, just think about what I said" said Salazar as he slowly walked out of the room as Kate began to think.
"Wait!, is he trying to tell me something?, or am I imagining things?" Kate thought to herself, a few minutes later a thought appeared in her mind. "Is he trying to say that he loves me?" Thought Kate as she paced around the room, a short time later and Kate couldn't stop thinking about what Salazar had said, "I...need to talk to him...I need to know.." said Kate.
Moments later Kate left the room and went looking for Salazar, she searched room after room in the large castle trying to find him and eventually she found him in the tower. "There you are!, I have something to tell you and I have a question for you.." said Kate, "oh what's up?" Said Salazar, "I love you!" Said Kate, a look of surprise appeared on Salazar's face and then Kate asked her question, "do you love me?" She asked.
Salazar became silent as Kate nervously awaited for his answer....
