Social Media Preference

Which social media platform would you choose to own, and what would you change about it if you could?
If I could own a social media platform, it would be Twitter/X or Telegram — especially Telegram, because it’s a haven for child predators and criminals. People change their IDs instantly, disappear, and come back without consequences, and that anonymity gets exploited constantly. These platforms feel barely regulated, and when users report harmful content, they’re often ignored or left waiting while the damage continues.

If I owned them, the rules would be stricter and actually enforced. I’d implement faster content takedowns, real accountability for repeat offenders, and proper support for victims. Cybersecurity would be a priority, with improvements like stronger identity verification eg facial recognition scanning, device fingerprinting to prevent ban evasion, AI-assisted detection of harmful behaviour, safer cloud storage, encrypted data handling, and transparent reporting systems.

I’d go even further: mandatory two-factor authentication, advanced age verification, behaviour-based monitoring, auto-flagging of suspicious activity, improved moderator tools, rapid human review teams, stricter community guideline enforcement, and partnerships with cybersecurity organizations and law enforcement when necessary. Regular security audits, bug bounty programs, and vulnerability testing would constantly strengthen the platform.

I’d add proactive safety design — like limiting mass forwarding, restricting anonymous group access, watermarking shared media to track distribution, traceable invite systems, and temporary ID locks to prevent instant identity switching. Users would also get more control: better blocking tools, anti-harassment filters, safer reporting systems, and the ability to request emergency content takedowns.

Workforce management would be just as important. I’d build a properly staffed safety and moderation department with trained professionals, not overwhelmed volunteers. Clear roles, mental health support for moderators, rotating shifts to prevent burnout, ongoing training in digital safety, and strict internal policies to prevent corruption or bias. I’d create escalation teams for severe cases, a 24/7 response unit, legal compliance teams, and direct communication channels so users actually feel heard.

I’d also implement internal accountability — performance reviews for moderation decisions, transparency reports, whistleblower protections, and independent oversight boards to ensure fairness. Long-term planning would include education campaigns, community ambassadors, and partnerships focused on digital safety awareness.
