It was a rainy evening when they stopped at a little shop to buy ice cream. She picked a Cornetto, her favourite, and took the first bite with the excitement of a little girl. He stood beside her, watching her smile, completely forgetting about his own ice cream.
Noticing his gaze, she smiled and asked, “Why are you looking at me like that? Don't you want a bite?”
He leaned closer, gently wiped a little chocolate from the corner of her lips, and whispered, “You know why I love Cornetto?”
She laughed. “Because it's sweet?”
He shook his head. “No. Because it's just like you.”
She raised an eyebrow. “How?”He smiled, pulling her a little closer. “A little crunchy on the outside, soft and sweet inside, full of surprises, and impossible to resist. And just when I think I've had all the sweetness, there's that little piece of chocolate waiting at the very end.”
She blushed and hid her face against his chest.
He kissed her forehead and whispered, “That's you, baby. My favourite sweetness, my unexpected happiness, and the one I never want to finish loving.”
She looked up mischievously. “So I'm just an ice cream to you?”
He laughed, wrapped his arms around her waist, and replied, “No, sweetheart. Cornetto is just an ice cream. You're my Cornetto. The difference is, ice cream melts in my hands, but you make my heart melt every single time.”
And from that evening, whenever he called her “my Cornetto,” she knew he wasn't talking about ice cream.
He was reminding her that she was his favourite little piece of sweetness in a world that wasn't always sweet.
