Part 7: The Exception She Made
The next morning, Vedha woke up with Sarang on her mind.
The previous night had been their longest conversation yet, filled with laughter, teasing, and moments that felt a little more intimate than either had expected.
While Sarang was still fast asleep, Vedha went through her morning routine and got ready for work.
Before leaving, she opened Zozo for a quick look, secretly hoping to catch him online.
But there was no Sarang.
She felt a tiny disappointment, shrugged it off, and left for work.
Throughout the day, she checked Zozo whenever she found a little free time, chatting with people and laughing at their silly remarks.
Yet somewhere in the back of her mind, she was waiting for one familiar username to appear.
He never did.
It was only after work that she finally spotted him in the room, flirting, joking, and entertaining everyone as usual.
The moment the system message announced Vedha has joined the room, a whisper from Sarang popped up.
Sarang: "There you are."
Vedha: "Were you looking for me?"
Sarang: "What do you think?"
Vedha: "I think someone's getting a little too comfortable."
Sarang: "And I think someone likes the attention."
Vedha rolled her eyes, grinning at the screen.
Before long, they were back in their private messages, teasing each other as if they had never said goodbye the previous night.
But this time, Sarang seemed determined to keep her hooked. One question led to another, jokes turned into personal conversations, and every time Vedha thought she had the perfect reply, he came back with something that made her laugh.. Ehm prolly giggle.
Then, in the middle of their conversation, he said something she wasn't expecting.
Sarang: "Vedha, can I tell you something seriously for once?"
Vedha: "That sounds suspicious. Go on."
Sarang: "I seriously want to get connected to you outside Zozo. I'm not saying I'm going to disturb you or demand your time. I just feel like we deserve something more than conversations that begin and end in a chatroom."
Vedha went quiet.
She remembered how firmly she had said no the last time. She had her reasons, and she hadn't wanted to complicate something that felt so easy.
But now, sitting there with his message in front of her, she realised that her mind had already lost the battle. Her heart had been quietly winning all along.
Vedha: "You do realise you're asking the same question again, right?"
Sarang: "I do. And I wouldn't ask if it didn't matter to me."
She read that line twice.
For once, she had no clever comeback ready. No teasing remark to hide behind. Just a small smile and the feeling that perhaps she was tired of pretending she didn't want this, too.
Vedha: "Fine, Mr Sarang. I'll give you my Snapchat. But don't get too excited."
Sarang: "Too late."
She laughed and sent him her ID.
And just like that, the door she had kept closed for so long finally opened.
She didn't regret it. There was no guilt, no second-guessing, no wondering whether she had made a mistake.
For once, she had listened to what she wanted instead of overthinking every possible outcome.
And Sarang?
He didn't waste a second.
Her phone pinged with a Snapchat notification.
A new message from Sarang.
Vedha looked at the screen, smiling to herself.
Vedha: "So this is what happens when you finally get your way?"
His reply came almost immediately.
Sarang: "Oh, sweetheart. I've barely started."
Vedha laughed, shaking her head. She had spent so long guarding that little boundary, convinced that keeping things within Zozo was the safest way to enjoy what they had.
But one conversation, one honest request, and one small decision had changed that.
She hadn't promised him anything. She hadn't named what was growing between them.
She had simply made an exception.
And somehow, that one little yes felt bigger than she had expected.
