Part 12 : Not So Unbothered

It was another ordinary evening in the Kerala Room.

Vedha had joined a little earlier than usual, casually scrolling through the messages and replying whenever something caught her attention.

Rahul: "Look who's here!"

Vedha: "Your daily entertainment has arrived."

Rahul: "We were doing just fine, actually."

Vedha: "Then I'll leave. Enjoy your peaceful life."

Rahul: "NO. PLEASE STAY."

Vedha laughed at the messages.

A few minutes later, another notification appeared.

Sarang has joined the room.

Sarang: "What's happening here?"

Vedha: "Nothing. We were discussing how peaceful life is without you."

Sarang: "And yet you were waiting for me."

Vedha: "In your dreams."

Sarang: "My dreams have excellent taste."

She sent a laughing emoji and continued chatting.

Everything was normal until a new name appeared in the conversation.

Ayaan: "Hello, troublemakers."

Vedha: "Oh, look who's here."

Ayaan: "Someone missed me?"

Vedha: "Don't get too excited. I was just wondering when the room would become annoying again."

Ayaan: "Means you did notice my absence. I'll take that as compliment."

Vedha: "Take it as a warning."

Ayaan: "You're always this difficult?"

Vedha: "Only with people who deserve it."

Ayaan: "Then I must be special."

Vedha: "That's one way to misunderstand things."

Sarang was reading.

He didn't say anything at first.

Ayaan continued.

Ayaan: "Tell me something, Vedha. Are you always this charming, or am I getting special treatment?"

Vedha: "Depends. Are you always this cringe, or is today a special occasion?"

Ayaan: "Only when you are around."

Vedha sent a laughing emoji.

Sarang finally joined in.

Sarang: "The room has turned into a poetry competition, apparently."

Ayaan: "Don't be jealous, brother. There's enough charm for everyone."

Sarang: "I'm not worried about the competition."

Vedha: "Nobody asked you to compete."

Sarang: "I wasn't talking to you, Vedu."

Vedha: "Then why are you replying to everything I say?"

Ayaan sent a laughing emoji.

Ayaan: "I like this girl. She knows how to handle people."

Vedha: "Finally, someone with good judgement."

Sarang: "Debatable."

She noticed the change in his tone.

And for some reason, it made her smile.

**********************************

A little later, Vedha received a private message.

Sarang: "Having fun?"

Vedha: "Very much. Thank you for asking."

Sarang: "Clearly."

Vedha: "Is something wrong?"

Sarang: "No. Why?"

Vedha: "Your messages suddenly sound like they're being typed with your teeth clenched."

Sarang: "Don't imagine stuffs."

Vedha: "I'm not. I just said what I observed."

Sarang: "You seem to be enjoying his attention."

Vedha: "Whose?"

Sarang: "Don't play innocent."

Vedha: "Ayaan?"

Sarang: "See? You know exactly who I'm talking about."

Vedha: "He's funny. What's the problem?"

Sarang: "Nothing."

Vedha: "There's that famous answer again."

Sarang: "Enjoy your evening, Vedu."

Vedha: "Oh, I intend to."

She put her phone down, smiling at the screen.

For the next few hours, Sarang didn't message her.

And that silence was more entertaining than she expected.
