Odysseus and his crew walked onwards through the dark pine forest once again but this time they headed west instead of east , they walked for hours until they reached a river. The river glimmered in the sunlight as Odysseus and his men walked onwards , suddenly they heard a noise coming just ahead of them from a cave , Odysseus and his crew drew their swords and shields and walked into the cave slowly as the little owl continued to stand on Odysseus's shoulder.
As they walked into the cave they lit a torch and slowly walked a little further inside , then suddenly a large lion burst out of the shadows and attacked them. Odysseus and his men defended themselves as the lion swung it's large claws at them , the lions claws scratched against their shields , a few of Odysseus's men thrust their spears towards the lion , their spears didn't even scratch the lions skin , they moved back slowly as Odysseus pushed the lion back with his shield and then thrust his sword towards it's chest.
Odysseus's sword didn't even leave a mark on the lion , "our weapons are useless men" shouted Odysseus , Odysseus and his men walked backwards out of the cave then the lion followed them. The lion attacked them again but Odysseus and his crew were able to deflect it's attacks , Odysseus looked around for something that could help them and moments later he noticed a strange patch if ground by the side of the cave , "follow me men" shouted Odysseus , Odysseus and his men walked around the lion and towards the strange patch of ground and stood behind it.
Suddenly the lion charged forwards towards them and then just as it was about to strike it stopped , the lion started to sink into the ground slowly , "it's quicksand" said Odysseus as he and his men watch the lion struggling until it finally sank deep into the quicksand. Odysseus and his men sat down next to the river and caught their breath and refilled their water pouches , "I'm starting to think we'll be stuck on this island" said one of Odysseus's men , "don't worry men we'll escape this island" said Odysseus as he reassured them , minutes later Odysseus and his men walked onwards and decided to follow the river to see where it would lead them...
