Necklace Road Story- "She told me the bench wasn't mine to share. She was right. But she stayed anyway. "

Sunday evening. Necklace Road, Hussain Sagar side. I parked by bike at Tank Bund stop — 6:45 PM. Tired. Bought a Rs.12 masala chai from near the steps.
She was on the bench already — earphones in, completely in her own world. Didn't look up when I sat nearby.
Me: "Is it okay if I sit here?"
Her (one earbud out, not impressed): "It's a public bench. You don't need permission."
Me: "I know. I just wanted a reason to talk to you. That was the best I had."

Three full seconds of silence. Then — she smiled. That smile hit harder than the chai.

We talked for over an hour. The wind from Hussain Sagar kept messing with her dupatta. She kept fixing it. I pretended not to notice. I noticed.
Charminar direction lo hawa vasthundi — you know that feeling? When the city itself feels romantic for no reason?

She was from Kukatpally. Teaching job. First Sunday alone in months. Said she came to "reset."
When her auto came she said: "Same bench. Next Sunday?"

I said: "I'll get there earlier this time."
She laughed. Got in. Left.

This last Sunday, Hussain Sagar reflected the city lights perfectly. I sat there another 30 minutes just thinking. Best Rs.12 ever spent. ☕
