Hello there, thought I'd do something different.
Below are some Greek words and their words in English form, the English letters are highlighted in red and Greek highlighted in blue. The English translations are in black.
Καλησπέρα - Good Evening
Kalispera
Καλημέρα - Good morning/ Good Afternoon
Kalimera
Καληνύχτα - Good Night
Kalinychta
Γεια σου - Hello
Geia sou - in this case of this word, the letter G has a Y sound and is pronounced differently
These are just a few everyday Greek words used to greet someone
Now of course I am learning to read Greek myself and I will tell you now it is extremely difficult.
I would recommend learning the Greek alphabet first as well as learning the sounds of the letters.
Also the Greek alphabet has less letters than the English alphabet so certain letters are unavailable
However in the Greek language some of the letters can be combined to make a different letter.
It gets a little more difficult there but once you get the hang of it it gets a little easier.
Below are the numbers 0 to 10 in Greek letters and English letters beside them and the numbers themselves are in black.
0 - μηδέν - midén
1 - ένα - éna
2 - δύο - dio
3 - τρία - tria
4 - τέσσερα - tessera
5 - πέντε - pénte
6 - έξι - éxi
7 - επτά/εφτά - épta/éfta
8 - oκτώ/oχτώ - Octó/Ochtó
9 - εννέα - eneá/eniá
10 - δέκα - théka/déka
I have learnt these numbers but it does take a little time.
You have to remember the Greek alphabet first it well help you.
It's also good to write out the Greek over and over again it will help with learning the language.
I have done this already and I have even used a few of these words when talking to a friend.
There are other things to know but they are more advanced and are more difficult to grasp, I'm still trying to grasp the more advanced things but I'm slowly making progress with them.
However if anyone would like to learn Greek I would recommend YouTube learning video's first so you can hear how the letter's sound, that is partly his I started. But there are plenty of other places to learn from.
I also watch Greek language videos there to help with learning, I still struggle with the larger words so I've been sticking with the shorter words for now but will try larger one's soon.
Thanks for reading
