Some stories begin in places that were never meant to hold anything real. Ours began in a world made of usernames, fleeting interactions, and the quiet assumption that everyone eventually logs off and moves on. Yet, somewhere amidst all that unreality, there was a conversation that felt strangely familiar, as though we had met at the wrong time in another life and had simply resumed where we had left off.
What followed unfolded with an ease that neither of us questioned. The virtual slowly gave way to the tangible. Somewhere between ordinary days and extraordinary moments, we unknowingly built a world of our own, a world measured not in places visited, but in the comfort of simply existing beside one another. Cinema halls became archives of stolen glances. Beaches turned into witnesses of conversations that still echo long after the waves have retreated. Random trips became memories we revisit more often than photographs. Even the most ordinary moments acquired an unfamiliar beauty, simply because they were shared.
And somewhere along the journey, something changed. What had begun as an unexpected encounter quietly outgrew its beginnings. Without declarations or dramatic moments, affection gave way to certainty. We realized that this was no longer something transient, nor merely a beautiful coincidence. It had become something worthy of dreams, plans, and a future. What started by chance had slowly become a conscious choice, one we continue to make every single day.
"മെല്ലെ മെല്ലെ ഓരോ നാളും നീ വെയിലായ്
(Slowly, slowly, every single day, you become the sunlight)
(Aren't you whispering something to me with your fingertips?)
(Only because of you, it is always a full moon night inside my soul)
(And the moment you fade from my sight, you become a teardrop)"
Then life, with its impeccable sense of timing, reminded us that some journeys are not meant to remain easy. Geography reclaimed its place, and suddenly, we found ourselves returning to where it had all begun: screens, notifications, calls, and waiting. We wondered how one carries an entire person across miles. As it turns out, love is remarkably inventive. It finds refuge in video calls, in shared reels, in photographs sent without context, in games played together, in voices heard before sleep, and in the thousand small rituals that quietly become indispensable.
Still, there are nights when conversations fade, when there are no stories left to tell, no konas left to share. Yet neither of us leaves. We simply remain, two faces illuminated by separate screens, suspended in a silence neither of us is willing to end. It is a peculiar thing, this kind of love. To miss someone and still feel their presence everywhere. To carry them through every ordinary moment. To discover that home was never a place, but a person.
"നിൻ ശ്വാസഗന്ധമേ മായാത്ത മന്ത്രമേ
(Oh the scent of your breath, it is an unfading mantra/charm)
(Come and flow into me, filling me like a river)
(As you remain deeply within my dreams)"
And perhaps the strangest part of all is this......in a world that was never real, I found the most real thing that has ever happened to me.
