Spiders crawled across the walls and the wind echoed through the corridors of the temple as Odysseus , Hercules and Perseus walked deeper inside. Suddenly they heard more strange noises as they walked onward through the cobweb filled corridors , "did you hear that?" whispered Odysseus , "yes it sounded close" whispered Hercules as he brushed a large spider off his shoulder.
"Stay on your guard" said Perseus as he grabbed a torch off the wall beside him , the strange sounds continued as they walked through the dimly lit corridors. A few moments later they stopped and stood still as they saw a shadow move at the end of the corridor , "did you see that" whispered Perseus , Hercules and Odysseus nodded as they gripped their swords tighter.
They continued to walk onwards a little further and then suddenly the torch flames flickered and went out , Odysseus , Hercules and Perseus moved into formation and stood back to back. They moved slowly through the corridor towards the large room ahead of them , the large room was filled with statue's and pieces of broken stone across the floor , "I do not like this" whispered Perseus as a few beads of glistening sweat dripped from his forehead.
"We are not alone here" whispered Hercules as he looked towards the shadows , seconds later they could hear a hissing sound close by. "Snakes!" whispered Odysseus , "yes I hear it as well" whispered Perseus , "oh no...I think I know where we are.." whispered Hercules , "where are we?" whispered Odysseus , "this island is where the Gorgon's live , you must not look into the eyes!" whispered Hercules.
"Why not?" whispered Perseus , "one look into a Gorgon's eyes and you will turn to stone" whispered Hercules , "so these statues are not statues...they were once living people" whispered Odysseus. The heroes moved once more towards the next room as they kept an eye on their surroundings , suddenly they heard a hissing sound echoing all around them , "how many Gorgon's live on this island?" whispered Odysseus.
"Only three live on this island , there are the immortal Gorgon's named Stheno and Euryale" whispered Hercules , "and who is the other?" whispered Perseus. "The other is...." whispered Hercules , just as Hercules was about to name the third Gorgon he saw something coming towards them , then suddenly a green scaly tail came out of the shadows and smashed through a marble table beside the heroes.
"It is Medusa!!" Said Hercules , moments later Medusa burst from out of the shadows and leapt towards the heroes , Odysseus and Perseus jumped out of the way as Medusa smashed through one of the statues that had stood in the room. "How dare you enter my temple!" Hissed Medusa as she moved fast around the room , "do not look at her eyes!!" Said Hercules as he looked down at the floor.
Medusa moved ever closer towards Hercules and Odysseus and pushed them back to the corner of the room , meanwhile Perseus grabbed a shield off the floor and raised it in front of himself. "This shield is reflective on the back" thought Perseus as he looked at his reflection , Medusa knocked Odysseus and Hercules swords from out of their hands and hissed at them loudly.
"Look at me...." hissed Medusa as Perseus put his sword away and then placed his shield on one of the statues , Medusa's sharp venomous nails scratched against the wall as Perseus picked up a chunk of stone. Hercules and Odysseus felt Medusa's breath against their skin as she leaned in closer , moments later Perseus hid around the corner of the corridor and then threw the chunk of stone towards the statue he had placed his shield on.
"Come out and face me..." Hissed Medusa as she moved towards the statue , Medusa saw Perseus's reflection in the shield and then swung her tail towards it. Medusa's tail hit the statue and smashed it into pieces as Perseus moved fast towards Hercules and Odysseus , a few moments later Hercules and Odysseus had picked up their swords and stood beside Perseus.
Medusa suddenly turned around and leapt towards them , "get down!!" Said Odysseus , Hercules , Odysseus and Perseus ducked and rolled across the floor towards the broken statue as Medusa hit the wall. Medusa quickly got up as Perseus grabbed the shield next to him , "you shall die here..." Hissed Medusa as she moved towards the heroes fast , Perseus swiftly moved in front of Hercules and Odysseus and held the reflective side of the shield up in front of them.
Suddenly Medusa screamed as she saw herself in the reflection of the shield , she continued to scream as her body began to turn grey. Perseus held the shield as he stood up and moved closer towards Medusa , "get away..." Hissed Medusa as Perseus moved the shield closer towards her , Medusa's screams echoed through the temple as she looked at her own reflection and began to turn to stone.
Moments later Medusa had turned to stone and the heroes breathed a sigh of relief , moments later they heard more hissing sounds nearby. "It must be Stheno and Euryale , we must leave this place before they find us!" whispered Odysseus , a few moments later the heroes ran through the temple and back towards the way they came in , a short time later the heroes had made it outside to safety.
"Let us not come to this island again" said Perseus as he wiped the beads of sweat from his forehead , "yes let us get away from this place before Stheno and Euryale come for us" said Odysseus as the heroes quickly left the area. Later that day Odysseus , Hercules and Perseus had arrived at the shore and walked across the beach , as they walked across the beach and through the shallow water it began to rain.
The heroes climbed aboard their ship and lifted the anchor as the rain began to fall harder and the wind grew stronger , "let us sail onwards before the weather worsens" said Odysseus. Moments later the heroes and their crew sailed onwards across the rough sea towards their next destination.
