Dinosaurs roamed the Earth for approximately 165 million years. Compared to that, human existence on Earth is like that of a newborn baby; only 300 thousand years. Yet, we already fear that our extinction is near. I believe that humans themselves are the major threat. Through our developments, we've accelerated the extinction process, causing the loss of hundreds of thousands of species in the human era; species that may have lived thousands of years more through natural selection.
Recent incidents due to the impact of climate change and the inadequate efforts of global corporations strengthen my belief that development doesn't ensure safety from disasters.
In my view human-driven natural causes such as climate change or any pandemic will likely be the leading causes of our extinction.
