Don't Turn Around, Marsh
At 3:03 a.m., Marsh woke to the sound of his phone vibrating.
One unread message.
From: Marsh
> "Whatever happens tonight... don't turn around."
His heart raced.
He checked the sender again.
It was his own number.
Thinking it was a prank, he laughed and put the phone down.
Then another message arrived.
> "I know you're smiling. Stop smiling."
The smile vanished from his face.
No one could see him.
Another message.
> "Now you're looking at the door. Good. Don't open it."
Marsh froze.
Someone was watching him.
Knock... Knock... Knock...
Three slow knocks echoed through his room.
A familiar voice spoke from outside.
"Marsh... it's me. Open the door."
It sounded exactly like his best friend.
Then his phone buzzed again.
> "That's not your friend."
The knocking stopped.
Silence.
For nearly a minute.
Then the voice came again...
This time from inside the room.
"Marsh..."
He felt warm breath against the back of his neck.
His phone vibrated one last time.
> "I told you not to turn around."
The screen went black.
Then, in the reflection...
Marsh saw himself.
Standing behind him.
Smiling.
But he wasn't smiling.
