Before you trust that message, click that link, download that file, or believe that “urgent” story someone just sent you…
STOP FOR 30 SECONDS.
Not everything suspicious looks suspicious.
Sometimes it's a badly written message.
Sometimes it's a perfect-looking website.
Sometimes it's a friendly person you've been talking to for days.
And sometimes the most dangerous message begins with:
“Don't worry, I'm just trying to help you.”
A few things are worth checking before you react:
Who actually sent it?
Is the account genuine, or could it be impersonating someone?
What exactly are they asking you to do?
Click a link? Install something? Send money? Share a private photo? Give an OTP or personal information?
Why the urgency?
“Do it now.”
“Your account will be closed.”
“Don't tell anyone.”
“Send it quickly.”
Urgency is often used to stop us from thinking.
Can you verify it somewhere else?
Don't verify a suspicious claim using the same person or link that created the claim.
And one more important thing:
If something actually goes wrong, keep the evidence.
Screenshots, messages, usernames and timestamps can matter when reporting a problem. Chat ZoZo itself has recently clarified that reporting the actual message can be much more useful than simply reporting an account.
I'm not saying we should become paranoid about everyone.
That's not the point.
The point is:
Trust people when they earn it.
Verify information before you act on it.
And never let urgency make your decisions for you.
We've all ignored at least one warning sign because something felt convincing.
So here's my question:
