Dear Younger me

Dear younger me,

I wish I could tell you that you don't have to figure everything out so quickly.

You will spend a lot of time wondering whether you're doing enough, whether you're becoming successful quickly enough, whether people like you, whether you're making the right choices. Some nights, you'll compare your life with someone else's and wonder why their journey seems so much easier.

Don't.

You are not late.

You are simply living a life that has its own timing.

You will lose people you thought would stay forever. Some friendships will quietly disappear. Some people you trusted will disappoint you. There will be moments when you wonder why you cared so much about people who eventually became strangers.

But don't let those experiences make you cold.

Not everyone who leaves was meant to stay, and not every ending means something went wrong.

Some people are chapters.

Some are lessons.

And a very few become part of the story you carry for the rest of your life.

You will also make mistakes. Embarrassing ones. Painful ones. The kind you'll replay in your head at night and wish you could undo.

You can't.

But you can grow from them.

One day, you'll realize that becoming wiser isn't about never making mistakes. It's about making peace with the person you were when you didn't know any better.

So forgive yourself.

For the things you didn't understand.

For the opportunities you missed.

For the people you couldn't save.

For the times you weren't brave enough.

You were learning.

And please remember this: being kind does not make you weak.

The world may sometimes make you feel that you need to become harder to survive. But keep your softness. Just learn where to place it.

Be kind, but have boundaries.

Love deeply, but don't lose yourself.

Trust people, but don't ignore what they show you.

And never measure your worth by how much attention you receive from someone else.

There will be days when you feel ordinary.

There will be days when you feel completely lost.

And there will be days when you look around and realize that you're actually becoming the person you once wished you could be.

Notice those days.

Celebrate them quietly.

Life isn't only made of huge achievements. Sometimes happiness is simply sitting somewhere peaceful, laughing with someone you love, listening to a song that reminds you of a beautiful memory, or realizing that something that once broke your heart no longer hurts.

Those little moments are life too.

So stop rushing through them.

One day, you'll understand that you were never supposed to have everything figured out at twenty, twenty-five, or even thirty.

You were supposed to live.

To make mistakes.

To love.

To lose.

To begin again.

To become.

And if I could leave you with only one sentence, it would be this:

Don't spend so much of your life worrying about becoming someone that you forget to appreciate who you already are.

With love,

The person you eventually became.

Superb post...
I do talk to my younger self, who at times still linger in my head with guilt and missed opportunities.
Compassion towards self should be paramount to stay healthy and at peace.
