Sometimes, we become possessive over people who were never truly ours. We get attached to their presence, their attention, their conversations and the little things they do, until we slowly start expecting a place in their lives that was never promised to us. We mistake consistency for commitment, attention for affection and emotional closeness for something permanent.
But the truth is, having feelings for someone doesn’t give us ownership over them. We cannot expect someone to act like they belong to us when we’ve never established what we mean to each other. It’s okay to care, to appreciate and even to feel deeply, but we must also learn to respect boundaries.
Not every connection comes with a commitment, and not everyone we feel attached to is meant to stay. Sometimes, maturity is learning to care without claiming, appreciate without expecting and let go without feeling entitled to something that was never ours.

Knowing better and doing better are clearly two different things.
