A Fool, a Dreamer, or Just Lost in Thought?

I'm one of a kind, there's nobody like me,
I stand my ground and look as far as I can see.
Yet things don't always work out as they should,
Like playing hide-and-seek in a misunderstood wood.

Every now and then, something comes into view,
A glimpse of an answer, a peek-a-boo.
But just as I think I've discovered the clue,
I'm left scratching my head, asking, “Who knew?”

They say, “Look around, keep your ears open wide,
The truth will reveal itself; there's nowhere to hide.”

But I've searched and I've listened, and what have I found?
A whole lot of maybes just spinning around.

Like walking along when you hear a strange hoot,
Could it be the wind, or a car with a toot?
Perhaps it's a clue to the thing that I seek,
Or just my imagination playing hide-and-seek.

Oh, imagination, what a curious game,
You send me round in circles, then do it again.
You wind me up tight, leave my thoughts in a spin,
Till an inner voice says, “Mate, give it a rest, will you? Take a chill pill!”

And if things get stranger, if I'm losing my cool,
I can almost hear Mr T shouting, “Eat some nuts, fool!”
Perhaps there's a method to this madness of mine,
Or perhaps I've just wandered too far down the line.

But what if one day all the noise grinds to a halt?
Who takes the blame? Who's really at fault?
If heaven exists, and the heavens forbid,
My brain flicks the switch and shuts down the grid.

No thoughts, no questions, no peek-a-boo clues,
No mysterious hoots or imaginary toots.
Just silence where once all the madness would roam,
A mind without words, with nowhere to go.

So I'll keep standing my ground, at least while I can,
An errant knight in armour, still trying to stand.
Or a fool with a dream that's too distant to reach,
A court jester with wisdom he's struggling to teach.

For my mind holds a library of phrases galore,
With stories and thoughts spilling out by the score.
Yet something feels different when I sit down to write;
The words that once flowed now refuse to take flight.

I reach for a thought, try to give it a name,
But the harder I try, the less comes my way.
Is it doubt, is it tiredness, or simply my mind
Trying to make sense of the things left behind?

Perhaps I'm still searching for something unseen,
Some answer, some meaning, some space in between.
Perhaps I'm a dreamer who's lost his way,
Or just someone with too much left to say.

I'll keep picking up my pen, though the words may come slow,
For there's still so much buried that I'd like to let go.
But tonight, as I sit here, with thoughts left in store...

The mind is still willing,
but the pen feels the chore.
