The rain had started just before sunset.

At first, it was only a soft drizzle through the trees, barely louder than the wind. But by the time we reached the little clearing in the middle of the forest, it had turned into a heavy downpour.

We ran toward the campsite, laughing as we tried to protect the bags over our heads.

“You said this was going to be a peaceful camping trip,” you said, breathless.

I smiled. “I never promised good weather.”

“You promised adventure.”

“And this is definitely an adventure.”

We finally reached the tent, completely soaked.

For a moment, neither of us said anything.

The forest around us was disappearing behind curtains of rain. Water rolled from the leaves, thunder echoed somewhere beyond the hills, and the only warm light came from the small lantern hanging inside our tent.

You looked at me and started laughing again.

“What?”

“You look ridiculous.”

“So do you.”

You reached up and gently moved a wet strand of hair away from my forehead.

The laughter slowly disappeared.

Your hand remained there.

And suddenly, the rain didn't seem so loud anymore.

I looked into your eyes.

“You're staring,” you whispered.

“I know.”

“Why?”

“Because I've wanted to be this close to you for a long time.”

Your smile became softer.

Outside, thunder rolled across the forest.

Inside, neither of us moved.

You slowly stepped closer.

Our shoulders touched first.

Then our hands found each other.

Your fingers slipped between mine, warm despite the cold rain.

“I missed this,” you whispered.

“We've never had this.”

“I know.”

You smiled.

“That's why I missed it.”

I laughed quietly, and you rested your head against my shoulder.

For a while, we simply stayed like that.

No phones.

No people.

No distance.

Just us, surrounded by rain and trees.

Later, we made a small fire beneath the shelter beside the tent. I handed you a warm cup of coffee while you wrapped yourself in a blanket.

You moved closer until your shoulder rested against mine.

“Promise me something,” you said.

“What?”

“When we go back… don't let this become just a memory.”

I looked at you.

“It won't.”

“You can't know that.”

“I can try.”

You smiled.

Then you leaned closer.

Our faces were only inches apart.

The rain kept falling.

I could feel your breath.

For a second, neither of us moved.

Then you closed the distance and kissed me softly.

It was slow and uncertain at first, almost like we were both afraid the moment might disappear.

When we pulled away, you smiled.

“Why are you smiling?”

“Because I was wondering if you'd ever do that.”

“And?”

“I was worth the wait.”

You laughed and lightly pushed my shoulder.

I caught your hand.

You didn't pull away.

Instead, you came closer again and rested your forehead against mine.

The forest was dark now.

The fire flickered beside us.

Rain tapped against the leaves like thousands of tiny fingers.

And somewhere between the warmth of your hand and the sound of your breathing, I realized something.

Maybe we didn't need a perfect place.

Maybe we didn't need perfect weather.

Maybe all we had ever needed was one quiet night where the world disappeared long enough for us to finally find each other.

You looked at me one more time.

“Stay?”

I squeezed your hand.

“Until the rain stops.”

You smiled.

“And if it doesn't?”

I pulled the blanket around both of us.

“Then I guess we're staying here together.”
