Epic Legend
He found her online.
She was comfortable talking to everyone, participating in public conversations and expressing herself freely. He was an introvert, someone who preferred observing to speaking. He rarely joined public chats, but whenever he did, she would respond. Slowly, her replies became something he looked forward to.
One day, he gathered the courage to message her privately and express his affection. She politely declined. He accepted her response but chose to disappear from the conversations for a while. Perhaps he needed time to deal with his own feelings.
When he returned a few days later, he found her furious about his sudden disappearance. He hadn’t expected his absence to matter to her. That little incident made him realise that perhaps he had a place in her world, even if not the one he had imagined. They started talking again, this time within the boundaries she had established. He respected them.
Weeks passed, and their conversations became a part of everyday life. They developed regular timings, almost like a routine. They could talk about practically anything under the sun: life, people, opinions, humour, personal experiences and sometimes even intimate subjects. There was an unusual comfort in sharing thoughts without worrying about being judged.
He gradually discovered many things about her. He also realised that she carried her own personal struggles, though she rarely allowed anyone to see them. She maintained her distance, guarded certain parts of her life, yet somehow made him feel important.
His affection remained, but something else had grown alongside it: admiration and respect. He had started appreciating her not merely for what he initially felt towards her, but for the person she was.
They never became romantically involved. Yet, through familiarity, trust and countless everyday conversations, they developed a connection that was special in its own way. He had come looking for romance, but somewhere along the way, he learned to value the bond for what it was, without wishing it to be anything else.
