Part Three: The First Exception
It all started with an argument in the group chat.
Vedha was arguing with a guy over a difference of opinion. What began as a casual disagreement soon turned ugly when he started hurling insults and abusing her. But Vedha wasn't someone who would back down just because a man couldn't handle being challenged. She was giving him just as good as she got, determined to finish the argument on her own terms.
That was when Sarang noticed her.
He had been watching the exchange and eventually dropped a casual comment mocking the guy for the way he was behaving. It wasn't a grand gesture or an attempt to play the hero. He simply joined the conversation with a remark that put the other guy in his place.
Vedha wasn't particularly impressed by the idea of someone stepping into her argument on her behalf.
She had never been the kind of person who needed a random guy to fight her battles, and she certainly wasn't looking for someone to win an argument she was perfectly capable of handling herself.
She was quite happy fighting her own wars, thank you very much.
It was simply their first encounter.
After that, their interactions began to happen more naturally. They would find themselves in the same group conversations, exchanging the occasional remark or reacting to something the other had said. There was no deliberate effort to seek each other out, at least not in any obvious way.
Vedha was still Vedha: outspoken, playful, and never short of something to say.
She often threw flirtatious lines into the group chat, sometimes directed at someone in particular and sometimes simply dropped into the conversation for the fun of it.
Sarang began to do the same.
Sometimes, Vedha would drop a flirty line into the group chat, and Sarang would respond with one of his own. They never tagged each other or made it obvious that their messages were meant for one another, but both understood the little game they were playing.
To everyone else, it was just another random exchange in the chat. But between them, every teasing remark carried a hint of flirtation. They could be talking to the whole room while secretly enjoying this little back-and-forth with each other.
Neither acknowledged it openly, but they both knew when a message was meant for them.
Vedha was comfortable with that arrangement. She could enjoy the conversation for what it was without expecting anything beyond it.
In her mind, the boundaries were clear. Zozo was where they had met, and Zozo was where she intended to keep things.
She had never joined the platform looking for a relationship, nor did she want to turn a casual connection into something that came with expectations.
She liked the freedom of it all. She could log in, have a good time, and leave without feeling that she owed anyone an explanation.
But Sarang seemed to have a different idea.
To be continued...
