THE POINT OF EMPTY.
There is a point
where exhaustion becomes more
than being tired.
It becomes emptiness.
And still,
some people stand beside that emptiness asking why they are not receiving more.
More affection.
More attention.
More softness.
More love.
As though the person in front of them
is withholding something
instead of simply having nothing left to give.
There is something painful about being needed by everyone
and cared for by almost no one.
About being expected
to pour beautifully from a cup no one ever thought to refill.
The saddest part is not the asking.
It is the absence of noticing.
The absence of help.
The absence of anyone saying,
“Let me carry this for a while.”
Because love should not only ask,
“What am I getting?”
It should also ask,
“What are you carrying?”
It should notice the quiet breaking.
The heavy eyes.
The short patience.
The silence where laughter used to live.
And instead of demanding
the last drop,
it should bring water.
Tonight,
if someone you love
has nothing left,
do not punish them for being empty.
Help them rest.
Help them breathe.
Help them remember what it feels like to be cared for too.
Because no one becomes cold
from being loved well.
Sometimes they simply become tired of being everyone’s shelter while standing alone in the rain.
