Nallatha nallatha mrng eneet panik ponath alojikunath vare...And here comes June...The real monsoon begins in Kerala. We move from the scorching heat of summer to the cool, moody rainy season. Everyone has their own special memories of the monsoon: the sound of the rain, the smell of fresh soil, the flash of lightning, and the fear brought by loud thunder.
My own monsoon memories come from the days I learned to swim. I learned quite late, when I was 13 years old. Seeing five-year-old kids jumping into the pools like frogs made me feel insecure. But as the days passed, I gradually learned. I even nearly drowned a couple of times, which actually made me learn the process faster!
After that specific monsoon season, I only ever waited for the pools to fill up again. I would go with my friends and act just like those frogs in the water. Swimming is truly a great exercise. It requires total coordination between your body movements, hands, and breath all at once. I still remember the adrenaline rush of jumping from a high point into the blue pond water. It was mesmerizing.
The wait is finally over. Here comes another June. Another monsoon. Another adventure.
Jump into June!
