What You Were to Me & What I Was to You
In every life,
there comes a person
who teaches us
that words can exist
without truth...
I had one too.
My best friend,
or the one I believed was.
His sentences were smooth,
butter soft,
melting before they could reach my heart....
It took me two long years
to read the silence between his promises.
Two years to understand
what I truly was to him,
and how little that weighed...
Strange how pain didn’t break me.
I had already survived storms
far louder than his absence.
All he gave me was clarity...
a mirror showing my place,
and the value he assigned to it...
So few people knew the real me,
even fewer had access to my world.
He had it all.
And still, he chose convenience over staying...
He promised forever,
I forgot that promises
are often made
to be broken...
Thank God I am no longer
an emotional fool,
or this truth might have shattered me.
Instead, it simply settled...
He will never know
what he meant to me.
No one here ever held
the space he did in my heart...
Take comfort in one thing,
knowing you didn’t cost me tears,
only clarity...
And so,
thank you
for turning what I believed in
into a myth...
