Today was salary day. And, as a little tradition of mine, I got myself something sweet. This time, it was an Uncle John ice cream.
A brand that has been around for decades, carrying a little nostalgia with every bite.
I honestly can't remember the last time I had one, but today, it tasted like a tiny piece of childhood finding its way back to me.
And here's the thing:
I bought it just for myself.
Nothing for anyone else today.
Not because I'm selfish, not because the people in my life don't deserve gifts, and certainly not because I won't do things for them.
Just because, today, I wanted to do something for me.
It's never really about the gift or how much it costs. It's about pausing for a moment and acknowledging yourself.
The little victories, the difficult days, the things you've silently carried, and everything it took to become the person you are today.
Perhaps this ice cream was a little more than a salary-day treat.
Perhaps it was for the little girl who once had to run to her parents whenever she wanted something, and who can now walk into a shop, pick what she likes, and pay for it with her own money.
A small, ordinary pleasure. But a rather beautiful reminder:
I matter to me, too. And sometimes, I deserve to be the reason behind my own little happiness.
