When Care Became Control

Aarav knew how to make a conversation feel special. He was polite, attentive, and had a way of saying the right things at the right time. Ananya enjoyed talking to him. Slowly, their conversations became a part of her everyday life. He remembered little things she mentioned, noticed when her mood changed, and made her feel that someone was genuinely interested in knowing her.

One night, their conversation took a different turn.
Aarav: “Can I ask you something? Are we just friends, or is this becoming something more?”
Ananya: “What do you want it to be?”
Aarav: “Something real. I don't want this to be just another conversation that eventually fades away.”
Ananya: “Neither do I.”
Aarav: “Then can we say we're together? Just you and me?”
Ananya smiled at the message.
Ananya: “Yes, Aarav. Let's give this relationship a real chance.”
Aarav: “You won't regret it. I'll always make you feel special.”
She believed him.
And for a while, he did.

But gradually, his questions began to change.
Aarav: “Who were you talking to?”
Ananya: “Just a friend.”
Aarav: “Why do you need to talk to so many people when you have me?”
Ananya: “Having you in my life doesn't mean I stop having other people in it.”
Aarav: “I thought I was different from everyone else.”
Ananya: “You are. But that doesn't mean everyone else has to disappear.”
He would go quiet, then return with softer words.
Aarav: “Sorry. Maybe I'm just too attached to you. I get scared of losing you.”
Ananya understood it as insecurity. She reassured him, explained herself, and tried to make him feel secure. She didn't notice that every reassurance seemed to create a new expectation.

Soon, he wanted to know when she was online, whom she spoke to, and why she sometimes replied to others before replying to him.
Aarav: “I just want to be your first choice.”
Ananya: “You are important to me.”
Aarav: “Then why does it feel like I have to share you with the whole world?”
She had no answer that satisfied him.
To Aarav, love was slowly becoming something that needed proof. And every time Ananya gave him proof, he expected a little more.

He didn't call it control. He called it love.

The Relationship He Thought He Owned

Aarav began telling Ananya which friends made him uncomfortable and whom she should stop talking to.
Ananya: “You can't decide who I speak to.”
Aarav: “I'm telling you what hurts me.”
Ananya: “I can care about your feelings without obeying every demand.”
Aarav: “If you really loved me, you wouldn't think twice.”

Whenever she disagreed, he made her feel guilty. If she was busy, he questioned her priorities. If she wanted space, he wondered what she was hiding. Finally, Ananya said what she had been struggling to admit.
Ananya: “I don't feel free in this relationship anymore.”
Aarav: “So now I'm the bad person?”
Ananya: “I'm saying this isn't healthy for me.”
Aarav: “There's someone else, isn't there?”
Ananya: “No. This is about us.”

But he had already decided what the truth had to be.
Aarav: “You'll regret this. Don't think you can walk away and pretend nothing happened. I could tell people everything.”

The man who had promised to make her feel special was now threatening to expose their private moments.
Ananya: “I trusted you, Aarav. Please don't make me regret that.”
Aarav: “Then don't force me to become someone you don't like.”

She realised that no explanation would change anything. She ended the relationship and blocked him. Aarav told himself she was being impulsive and would eventually return. But the silence continued.

He couldn't accept that she had made a choice he had no power to reverse.

When Control Became Obsession

Aarav kept searching for Ananya, revisiting old conversations and wondering whether she had left him for someone else.
Was there someone all along? Was that why she left so easily?

He had no evidence. Still, suspicion slowly became truth in his mind. When people asked what had happened, he offered his version.
Aarav: “I gave her everything. Some people just know how to make you feel special.”
Friend: “So, she cheated on you?”
Aarav: “I don't know what to call it. She changed, started keeping things to herself, and then disappeared.”
Friend: “Did you find out she was seeing someone else?”
Aarav paused & said: “Not everything needs to be said out loud. Sometimes you just understand.”

He had turned suspicion into a memory and began telling it as fact. Meanwhile, he continued talking to other girls, charming and attentive as ever. When one asked if he was over Ananya, he shrugged.
Aarav: “I've learned my lesson. Never give someone more importance than they give you.”

He enjoyed their sympathy. Yet, if one took too long to reply or mentioned another male friend, his old questions returned.
“Who's that?”
“Just a friend.”

“Right. That's what everyone says.”

He could talk to other girls, but he couldn't bear the thought of Ananya talking to someone else. He searched through mutual acquaintances and familiar profiles, convinced she was hiding a new relationship.

One day, a friend challenged him.
Friend: “You keep saying she betrayed you. Do you actually know that?”
Aarav: “Why else would she leave?”
Friend: “Maybe she simply didn't want this relationship anymore.”
Aarav: “After everything we shared? She can't just make me a stranger.”
Friend: “She can, Aarav. That's what you're not accepting.”
He looked away, irritated.

Ananya, meanwhile, kept her life private and rebuilt her peace. She wasn't trying to make him jealous or prove anything. She simply wanted to live without defending herself against a story he had invented. But Aarav continued hinting to others that she had wronged him, meeting new girls, and searching for signs that she belonged to someone else.

Deep down, he held on to one conviction: She might have left me, but she had no right to.
He believed their relationship had given him a permanent claim over her. He mistook his inability to let go for proof that their story wasn't over.

Ananya had ended the relationship. Aarav had not ended his claim over her.

Sometimes the biggest misunderstanding is thinking that love gives us ownership over another person. Real love is about respect not possession. ❤️

I am proud of Ananya. You go gurl...!!!
