Chapter 37: Squirrels
Loki took off from Nekonata’s shoulder, with a few gusts of his winds he was high over the rooftops, glancing back he saw the boy looking at him confused, until he was out of view. Flying as fast as he could out of the portside town and over a rolling field of crops. A shadow from high above loomed over him briefly, but he took little notice. It had been 3 years since he’d met with anyone, receiving only messages from squirrels, having to learn how to communicate with the rodents who only spoke in chitters and chirps was frustratingly hard, but someone had took it upon themselves to be a literal personal bodyguard, not that she needed it!
Flying into a copse of trees at the end of the crop field, spreading his wings to slow his descent and landing softly on a tree branch. A squirrel snapped and chittered angrily at him for landing too close to her drey. Loki hopped backwards onto another branch and chittered his apology.
From the lofty branch of another tree, he heard a chittery laugh “You really don’t like squirrels much do you Loki?”
Loki looking up saw Timtur in his Elven form sat high up, he flew up to the branch the elf was sat on. “Birds are much better I’ll have ye know!”
Timtur shook his head smiling, he waved his hand and muttered an incantation in the ancient language, a blue dome of mist rose bigger around them and stayed acting like somewhat of a protective barrier. “No one could possibly hear us now, it’s been 3 years Loki, the boy still has no memory, and the girl is still in a slumber. Her dragon is getting restless.”
“Yes, yes…” The raven muttered in thought. “The boy's memory loss be strange, understand I do not.”
“Where does that leave us though Loki? Something doesn’t sit right at all!”
“The boy knows things, but not how or why… like just knows he does… like second nature… memory come back it will… it must!”
“The girl’s seizures have stopped, her temperature is normal, I’ve no idea what Master Vivi did, or Meera but it worked.”
“Good news it is, small though.”
“The dragon has searched herself to try to find answers, but to no avail. It’s frustrating her because you reach out to more people, she knows she’d give away her hiding place.”
“I, and Elqiana are… acquainted.” The raven glanced around, some village kids had ran into the copse of trees that he and Timtur were meeting in, with a small puff of blue smoke Timtur changed into his squirrel form.
Two boys and two girls playing chase. They stopped to rest at the foot of a tree. Chatting among themselves.
“Alicia, I dare you to kiss Chris!” Said a boy with scruffy red hair.
Alicia snapped back, “Fine then Michael I date you kiss Maria!”
The boys looked at each other and then back at the girls, they shrugged their shoulders and leaned in to kiss the girls, the girls pushed the boys faces away with their hands giggling, quickly getting back to their feet and ran out of the copse of trees. The boys groaned rolling their eyes and chased after the girls.
“Human children are very different from Elvish children.” Timtur observed.
The raven just shrugged his shoulders. “Tara, soon will awaken. Soon the two meet, they will.”
“How can you know this? You were told to watch, to observe, and only interfere if necessary.”
“Intuition…” The raven said simply, then he spread his wings and leaped into the air, flying back in the direction of the portside town. ‘That be, unto which he seeks, rewardeth is comes unto he.’ Loki says to Timtur through a mind link.
‘And just what the hell does that cryptic riddle mean?’ Timtur shouted in his mind at the raven.
Loki flew at a casual pace, watching everyone hustling and bustling in the streets underneath him. A loud roar reverberated in the wind, Loki sighed. “Stay calm o’mighty dragon, stay calm…” He muttered to himself. He circled over the area of the stables a few times but didn’t see the boy and his wolves. He widened his search moving in a bigger circle.
He noticed a black shaggy cat looking up at him watching, the cat stretched, and turned into a small male-like being with long black unkempt hair. Loki noticed it was pointing to the north, he rocked his wing as if to wave thank you, but the werecat had disappeared already.
Loki changed his direction and headed north, flying high over the northern portcullis and high above the fields, until in the distance he could make out a faint purple glowing aura…

Chapter 38: Bladder Loki calmly swoops down, Santi looks behind and growls-barks excitedly. Nekonata glances behind him, and holds his arm out for Loki to land who promptly walks up his arm and settles on the boy's shoulder. “Nice stretch of wings huh?” He asks Loki quietly “Horse nice!”...
