Chapter 29: Confusion
Vivi paced up and down the room occasionally glancing at Neko who was lying on a cot in a coma. Timtur wiped the boy's brow with a cloth.
“I’ve tried everything I could think of, even my cousin is at a loss.” Vivi muttered, talking to himself.
“I’ve asked Prince Althor, to see if his healers might be able to help, he said without knowing the poison there’s no way they can.” Timtur commented.
“Althor said he saw the boy talking to an old hunched woman. Curse this! I shouldn’t have been so distracted!” Vivi banged his fist on a table.
Meera flutters into the room, panicking. Exhausted, she crash landed on the table inches away from Vivi’s fist as he punched the table again in frustration.
“MEERA!? What’s wrong? Are you ok?” Vivi gently picked the swallow up in his hand bringing her close to his eyes. “Timtur go get her robes quickly please!”
Vivi found a small plate, and tipped some water on to it, placing Meera next to it, she drank up the water quickly. He then picked up the swallow and gently put her down on a chair behind the changing boards, there was a loud popping noise and large poof of magenta smoke as the swallow changed into her normal Elven form. She walked from behind the changing boards naked, her long brown hair covering her chest. Timtur walked in with her robe, saw her and quickly covered her eyes, Vivi not flinching at all.
“Now Meera, what’s got you all stressed and dishevelled?”
“Dyffros and Tara were ambushed by Rubian.” Meera said worriedly.
“Damn it! Are they ok?” Vivi asked the colour draining from his face, as he glanced at Neko’s sleeping form.
“Dyffros is dead, Tara is in a coma, Elqiana took her back to her hometown.”
Vivi paced the room again, his arms crossed against his chest.
“What happened to the boy? Oh, he’s wearing my gift!”
“Coma, it appears someone tried to poison him, your ‘gift’ saved his life Meera.”
“So both are now in coma? This is not coincidental is it?”
Vivi shook his head. “We need to get a message to Elqiana… but how?”
“Send someone just as mystical as her…” Suggested the ginger tabby werecat who’d been sleeping on top of the wardrobe the whole time.
“You’d send a message for us?” Vivi asked inquisitively. “Please forgive me, but were-cats don’t usually get involved in our… affairs”
The ginger tabby werecat yawns loudly, “Do you want help or not?”
“The message is for Elqiana and Tarasque’s mother, Tara must be brought here to Edena. Elqiana must stay out of sight as much as possible, that is of the utmost importance. They will meet people along the way who will guide them in the right direction.”
The werecat stretches, arching its back exaggeratedly, jumps off the wardrobe landing softly on all four paws on the ground, and walks to the exit.
“W-wait, please, what’s your name?” Vivi asked with a small bow.
“Tabby…” Came the curt reply, with that the were-cat disappeared, into the throng of people walking around outside.
“Blacky… Now Tabby, do all werecats name themselves from their defining features?” Asked Meera with a puzzled look on her face.
“What do we do about the boy?” Asked Timtur
“There isn’t anything we can do other than wait and hope he wakes up.” Replied Vivi softly.
A month later, Nekonata suddenly wakes up, his body drenched in sweat. He looked around confused, unsure of his surroundings. He tried to stand up but couldn't, his legs shaking, feeling weak. Glancing around he saw someone asleep on a chair at the opposite end of the room.
“Who are you? What am I doing here?” He called out.
Brushing her long brown hair out of her face, Meera looked up, “Nekonata! You’re awake! I’m so glad!” She stood up and walked towards him.
“Don’t you come near me!” Nekonata pushed himself back into the corner of his cot, filling the cold wall against his shoulder he flinched. He noticed a purple sheathed sword, and Dark Redwood longbow with a purple leather handle, he grabbed them not understanding why, for some reason they felt comforting to him.
“My name is Meera, we’ve known each other for a long time” Meera said softly and reassuringly, she slowly stepped closer, “You… you don’t remember me?”
“I don’t know who you are! Stay away from me!” He shouted panicking, scared he threw out his arm, “LEAVE ME ALONE!” A purple shockwave pulse flies out of his hand sending Meera crashing into the wardrobe knocking her out cold.
Panicking, the boy slips out into the darkness of the night and disappears.
