Chapter 20: Ruby

“Elvina, what brings you here?” Asked Vivi

“Oh, nothing much, I just wanted to see if the rumours of the child prodigy were true.”

“Now’s not the time to joke Elvina!”

Elvina shrugged her shoulders, unsheathing her own Ruby blade, “Elven swords are made for special people, people who have proven themselves, or are deemed worthy if they have an honourable nature, but it’s also the wisdom of the ancient language that makes the sword choose it’s owner, my swords name is aptly Ruby, Master Vivi’s Sunrise Crescent, but you don’t have a sword to match your caliber yet. Maybe you will one day… Whispering Wind has deemed you worthy, but it seems to only like training and nothing more.”

“You said… you trained with this blade, but you’d wondered where it disappeared to, what did you mean?” Neko asked, politely but curiously.

“Hmm… Once I’d finished training, and my master was happy with what I’d achieved, I placed back in the sword rack, with intentions of picking her up again to use as a weapon of my own, but I couldn’t find her again. Many years later I saw Arnbeth training with the sword, but when I asked her for the blade it shimmered green and disappeared, Arnbeth was not very happy with me after that.”

Vivi chuckled, “Oh, I remember the fall out from that. You must remember Neko, that Elves have long lives, and long memories to go with it. Now Elvina, why are you really here?”

“One of the eggs has hatched, father.” Elvina said bluntly.

“One of the eggs?” Neko asked, “Ooooh the chicks have finally hatched?”
Elvina gives Neko a curious look, confused at his surprise about chicks hatching, she watches him take a drink of water… “No, not chicks, a dragon egg has hatched!”

Neko spits his water out, spraying it all over the two Elves. “DRAGONS?!”

Vivi very quickly covers Neko’s mouth with his hand, and scolds Elvina. “Will you be careful, child! Unwanted ears could be listening, are you that insolent?”

Elvina shrugs her shoulders, “Everyone’s going to find out sooner or later, father!”

“In your wisdom Elvina you know full well that there is a right time and place for such information to be discussed! Neko, utter a word of this to anyone and there WILL be consequences!”

“Oh, yes, Master! Of course Master” Replied Neko bowing low to the ground. But his mind was already reeling at the possibility of dragons. He heard the stories of old about Zeindaryys and the unnamed dragons, in his learnings with Vivi and Timtur. Elvina looked at Neko and gave him a little wink as the three of them walked back towards the courtyard in Edena.

“If your sword is Ruby, does that mean it matches your aura too?”

Elvina nodded, “Fajro!” A small ball of ruby coloured fire appeared in the palm of her hand. She nodded towards Neko, and he didn’t hesitate.

“Fajro!” A small ball of purple fire appeared on his palm.

“Ooooh purple? No one has seen the purple aura for a long time, not since Braiden and Zeindaryys.”

“Master Braiden had a purple aura too?”

“I believe at first his aura was yellow, but when he bonded with Zeindaryys in the treaty it changed to purple. Do you know what purple means Nekonata?”

Neko shook his head. Vivi watched from the corner of his eyes, glancing at Evina, with a look telling her to be careful.

“Purple symbolizes creativity, spirituality, mystery, royalty, and power… that’s why it’s rare for anyone to have a purple aura, it’s a defining aura, highly recognisable to those who know of aura’s.”

“Which..” Vivi jumped in, “is why it’s important for you to have a firm grasp on the mundane things like running a house, cleaning, farming, as well your skills with a blade and bow. Magic should only be used when necessary.”

Elvina rolls her eyes at Vivi while sighing dramatically, “Always with a lesson father.”

“If Vivi is your father…” Neko paused, thinking about his next words carefully, “will I also have the chance of meeting your mother?”

Vivi and Elvina paused, glancing at each other before looking at the boy. Vivi walked away silently. “No Nekonata, unfortunately my mother Teandre is one with nature now. It’s probably best not to bring this up in front of Master Vivi again.”

“Y-yes, of course, m-my apologies” Neko replied bowing low. Elvina gave his shoulder a tight squeeze.

“So you’ve only learned the ancient word for fire, right?” Elvina asked him to change the subject, Neko nodded his head quietly.

Elvina showed the palm of her fist, “Tondro!” A small ball of ruby coloured static thunder appeared. Neko watched wide eyed as Elvina contorted the ball into a square and triangle, before it disappeared. “Try it for yourself, but please don’t tell anyone you got it from me” She said with a mischievous wink.

Neko smiled and nodded. “Tondro!” He whispered, and a static purple ball of thunder appeared in his hand, he contorted to the shape from a ball, into a square, then into a triangle… without thinking much about it the triangle suddenly contorted into the shape of a small squirrel of purple thunder. Elvina paused looking at the ‘thunder squirrel’ impressed. Then it disappeared with a small static pop sound.

Neko has something planned

Elvina ..... Is interesting. Am sure she troubled her parents a lot as a child hahaha ! She's strong willed, maybe a little stubborn too... Definitely honest and blunt on the face lol. Love her attitude....
But... But... How'd she know one of the dragon eggs hatched, but Vivi didnt?

So.........

Elvina gets word... or messages the same way Vivi does...

Okay but Ruby swords, ancient auras, dragon eggs, and thunder squirrels?? You’re feeding my fantasy-loving soul here! Elvina’s got sass, Neko’s got potential, and Vivi’s the tired dad trying to keep the magical chaos in check. I need Chapter 21 like, yesterday. Also... I must adopt a thunder squirrel immediately.
