Helloooo good guys!!

So, as today is Shivarathri, let me talk about Shiva (I can talk about him all day by the way yet it won't be enough). Well, I will not tell any religious stories from books about him. But I will dive into some philosophy of Shiva. His significance and what he represents. No matter what your religion is you can fall in love with his character. These are my thoughts and knowledge, so forgive me if I go wrong anywhere. And don't mind correcting me.

1)What is the meaning of Shiva?
There are various meanings on the Internet. Kind, auspicious, benevolent, and so on. But I prefer the meaning "nothing" or "that which is not". Shiva means Nothing. Because he represents the destruction of the Universe. After everything is destroyed, there will be nothing. So everything will become nothing. So everything becomes Shiva in the end.

2)What does Shiva represents?
He represents the destruction of self. Don't confuse it with self-destruction. The self that I am referring to is the feeling of "I and mine". It refers to the ego. So whoever kills their ego or loses the feeling of "I and mine" completely, will become Shiva.

3)Why Shiva lives in the graveyard?
People say many things about this, like "because he is the Lord of ghosts" and stuff. But people often miss the main point. He lives there to represent the end. No matter what you do, no matter however you live, one day you will end up in a coffin or on a funeral pyre, right?? That is why he lives there. He is telling you that in the end, you will attain him only, he is telling you he is the only friend you can have in the end. So Shiva is death and what is beyond death.

4)Why that attire?
Poor Shiva must have no good clothes and ornaments to wear or he must be a rogue and a wild being. If you are thinking that, well, think again. He wears those not because he doesn't have any good clothes and ornaments, his attire represents his detachment from the material things. He doesn't have any desire for material things like we do. Even if you give him lots of money, a lot of power, and women, he won't even flinch a little bit. That much stable and detached is Shiva. And his attire also suggests the wild nature of the Universe and his connection with the Nature.

5)What is Shivoham?
Shiva means "Nothing". Aham means "I". So Shivoham means "I am Nothing". Wait, wait, before your eyes turn red, let me explain the whole thing. Most people when they say Shivoham, they are actually inflating their ego. They feel they are God because they don't know what it represents. But it meant to kill your ego not inflate it. Let's dive into some history of Shivoham. Adi Shankara made Shivoham popular. He was a teacher of Advaita Vedanta, a philosophy that preaches non-dualism. It says there is no difference between you and me, you and God. It says all are the same and equal.

Let me make an analogy to explain it. Let's say you filled a balloon with your breath. And if you poke it with a sharp object, it will explode. Now can you try to identify the air you breathed into the balloon?? No, right. That is what the Advaita preaches, our bodies are just like the balloon and our soul is the air you breathed, and the atmosphere is God or the Supreme Soul. Once you leave the body, your soul will merge with the Supreme Soul. There will be no difference at all between you and the Supreme Soul. That is the summary of Advaita. But it happens after death, you realize it on death but Adi Shankara was a great guy, he showed people a way to be happy and reach the state of the Supreme Soul even before death, through Shivoham.

And being in the state of Shivoham is not easy, it is eternal bliss. It requires dedication, patience, and being humble all the time. And, yes, you can be equal with God. We know that God is everything and everywhere, you are just a speck in his creation. We also know that most of the infinite universe is just empty space, it is nothing. So everything in the world is surrounded by and part of nothing, everything is a subset of nothing. So by becoming nothing, you become everything, you become God. That is what Adi Shankara meant. That is why he became Jagadguru (Teacher of the Universe). If you are dedicated to your work, in any field and can maintain being humble with no pride throughout everything you face, serving everyone for the greater good, one day you become nothing and by becoming nothing you will become everything. You will be no lesser than Shiva. Now you can see the beauty of Shivoham and Advaita.

Here is the Nirvana Shatakam, written by Adi Shankara himself from which came Shivoham:

I am not space, not earth, not fire, water, or wind,
I am the form of consciousness and bliss, I am Nothing...I am Nothing...

I exist everywhere, pervading all senses,
I am neither attached, neither free nor captive,
I am the form of consciousness and bliss, I am Nothing...I am Nothing...

For the First time... I've read your post completely...:heart1:

Lovely post .
Advaita or Shankraharya /Rudra samprayda philosophy is one out of of 4 prescribed Bonafide so called university in simple terms to attain divine knowledge.
The path is slight diffrnt in interpretation with each other leading to the same point somehow ultimately.

The other 3- shree samprayda(Vishishtadvaita philosophy ),brahma samprayda( Dvaita and Achintya Bheda Abheda philosophy later added)kumar samprayda(Dvaitadvaita philosophy ) each of their respective acharyas were also Jagadgurus(The teacher of universe for their philosophy/teachings ).

Hence i who follow diffrent samprayda dont follow/abide by Advaita philosophy as done by different acharaya of other samprayda but at same time bowing down unto him for laying a strong foundation which was need of the hour at a particular point of time with his philosophy to serve the assigned purpose from our(certain sampradaya/acharaya )understanding.
