Bext Week Same Sunday evening again. Necklace Road, same side of Hussain Sagar. I reached at 6:15 PM this time — no chances. Parked the bike, grabbed another Rs.12 chai (same guy recognized me, gave an extra smile), and walked straight to **that** bench.
She wasn't there yet.
Heart doing mini marathons. I sat, pretended to scroll phone, but eyes scanning every auto that turned in from Tank Bund. Wind same as last time — Charminar side se vasthundi, dupatta-level drama guaranteed if she shows up.
6:32 PM. An auto slows down near the steps. She steps out — same simple kurti, earphones dangling, hair slightly messy from the ride. Scans around... spots me. That tiny pause. Then the same smile from last week, but softer, like she was hoping I'd actually come early.
She walks over, sits without a word first. Then:
Her: "You really came early."
Me: "Told you. No more missing the bus."
She laughs — quiet one, but it reaches the eyes. "Bus miss cheyyakunda undali ante... bench miss avvaddu."
We pick up right where we left. She tells me about her week — naughty kids in class, one drew her as a cartoon superhero. I tell her about the idiot who almost scratched my bike in parking. Normal stuff. But with the lake reflecting lights, it feels anything but normal.
Around 7:20, she checks time. "Auto book chesa... 7:40."
I nod. No dramatic lines this time.
We walk slowly towards the auto stand. Hussain Sagar calm, Buddha statue glowing in distance. She stops near the railing, looks at the water.
Her: "Next Sunday kuda...?"
Me: "Same bench. Same time. Earlier if possible."
She turns, eyes straight. "Deal. But... chai nenu treat ista next time."
Before I process, her auto arrives. She gets in, window down.
Her: "Don't be late, Tank Bund guy."
Auto leaves. I stand there watching taillights disappear into Necklace Road traffic.
No seconds gap drama this time. Just a promise hanging in the air, sweeter than any masala chai.
Hyderabad keeps giving these small, unexpected beautiful things. Mee turn — what's that one spot in the city where time slowed down for you unexpectedly?
