The soft glow of moonlight seeped through the cracks between the dark clouds in the night sky and the fog filled the streets as the killer known as "the shadow" stalked the streets of River Hollow for their next victim. Meanwhile a woman in her early forties with long red hair and blue eyes called Gwen had just left the tavern and began to walk home , she walked through the streets and then decided to take a shortcut through the long dark alley , she hummed a song to herself as she slowly walked through the alley.
Suddenly she heard a sound coming from behind her , she turned around and then looked ahead and said "hello? , who is there?" , she shook her head a little and said "hmm I must be imagining things". She turned around and continued to walk through the dark alley , little did she know that "the shadow" was following her closely , the shadow came ever closer to her as his hand was almost within reach , a moment later the shadow reached out and moved an arm around her then placed a hand over her mouth.
The shadows hand muffled Gwen's screams as she tried to escape from their grip , the shadow was to strong and a few moments later Gwen became exhausted. The shadow took out his knife and plunged it into her chest as he continued to hold her from behind , the knife pierced her skin and blood dripped onto the cobblestone path as the shadow thrust the knife in and out several times , suddenly the shadows hand slipped from Gwen's mouth a little.
Her scream echoed through the streets around her , the shadow had to silence her quickly , Holding the knife firmly the shadow ran the blad across Gwen's neck cutting it. Her blood sprayed across the cobblestone path and splattered on the brick wall beside her , suddenly a whistle blew loudly , "the police , I need to get away" thought the shadow as they headed towards the fog , "oi police! , don't move!" Said a policeman , but it was to late as the shadow had already vanished into the fog.
Several minutes later...
Rose and Gabriel had seen the small crowd and policemen standing around the alley , "damn! , we are to late" said Gabriel as he and Rose saw Gwen's body laying there in a pool of blood. "There is blood everywhere" said Rose , "I think the shadow may have been surprised and had to act fast" said Gabriel , as she looked around Rose saw someone running in the distance , "look , over there I think it is the shadow" she said , Gabriel looked at where she was pointing and saw a person running through the fog.
"Let us go after them" said Gabriel , a few moments later Gabriel and Rose ran into the thick fog and chased the shadow , they followed the shadow as fast as they could. "Damn I have lost them , must be close though" said Gabriel as he and Rose looked around , "I cannot see a thing with this thick fog around us" said Rose , a few minutes later Gabriel and Rose walked away and headed back towards the scene of the murder , "maybe the shadow left something behind" said Gabriel as he and Rose stood in front of the policemen.
"This is a crime scene , stay back" said the policeman , "I am Gabriel Van Helsing , I have assisted the police before" he said , "ah yes I have heard about you sir" said the policeman as he moved to the side and let them pass. Gabriel and Rose took a closer look at the scene and noticed something on the ground beside Gwen's body , "what is that?" Asked Rose as Gabriel looked closely , "hmm it looks like a badge , this woman must have ripped it off the shadows jacket" said Gabriel.
"A badge , what kind of badge" said Rose , "I have seen this badge before , only people that work at the harbour wear them" said Gabriel as he ran his fingers through his shoulder length brown hair. "So the shadow must work at the harbour and maybe also lives close to it" said Rose , "yes , this woman will not be the last victim , the shadow will strike again soon" said Gabriel , "the shadow must be very strong" said Rose , "yes I suspect that the shadow is either used to heavy work or....they could just be insane" said Gabriel , "we need to catch the shadow before someone else dies" said Rose.
Meanwhile at the harbour...
The shadow moved silently through the thick fog towards their lair , the shadow went inside the lighthouse and opened the trapdoor and climbed down into a hidden room. "Grrr , almost caught red handed , I shall need to be more careful from now onwards" said the shadow as she slipped off her leather gloves and mask and sat down at her desk...
