Rose made herself comfortable as the dark figure began to tell her the story of how Evelyn Grey disappeared.
It was October 29th 1642...
"This is the day that Evelyn Grey disappeared from Trinity Hale" said the dark figure.
It was a sunny morning in Trinity Hale as Evelyn Grey walked through the busy streets , she greeted people that passed by her in the market and smiled at them. Evelyn walked through the market towards the edge of town and then stood at the border , she looked at all the beautiful flowers that were growing in the meadow , "those flowers look so beautiful , I must go to the meadow later and collect some for my home" she thought.
A few minutes later Evelyn walked through the streets and passed by the church , "good morning Reverend Lockwood" said Evelyn as she waved at him , Reverend Lockwood waved back and smiled at her as he cleaned the church windows. Evelyn continued walking onwards until she reached her home , a few minutes later she had arrived back home and sat down beside the fireplace , she read a book as she drank her tea and then a short time later someone knocked on her door.
"Just a moment" said Evelyn as she got up from her chair , she opened the door but there was no one there then she looked down and saw a letter on the floor. "Oh a letter , I wonder who it is from" thought Evelyn as she closed the door and sat down , she opened the letter and began to read it , it said "Dear Evelyn , I wish to meet you at the meadow just outside the town this evening at sunset , I need to talk to you... Signed Amadeus Drake".
"Oh it is from Amadeus Drake... Katherine's brother" thought Evelyn , she continued to drink her tea and read a little more of her book to pass the time. Several hours later Evelyn got herself ready to meet Katherine Drake's brother Amadeus at the meadow just outside Trinity Hale , "I shall take my basket so I can collect those flowers I saw this morning" thought Evelyn , she picked up her basket and then left her house and made her way towards the edge of town.
"Hmm I shall take the shortcut through the trees by the small lake" thought Evelyn , she walked onwards towards the lake and passed through the group of trees. "Hmm I wonder where the townsfolk are , they all must be at home trying to stay warm" thought Evelyn , a few minutes or so later Evelyn had arrived at the meadow as the sun had started to set , "ah there you are Evelyn" said Amadeus Drake , "you wanted to talk to me?" Said Evelyn.
"Yes I do , I know your brother Edward is responsible for those murders" said Amadeus , "what? , how do you know that?" Asked Evelyn , "I saw him murder Emily Everwood the baker's daughter" said Amadeus. "I do not know what you are talking about , Edward did not murder anyone" said Evelyn , "I saw him murder Emily with my own eyes" said Amadeus , "you are mistaken" said Evelyn , "you are lying...you know Edward murdered those people and you have said nothing and protected him" said Amadeus.
Evelyn Grey became silent and placed her basket down on the ground and then kneeled down , "you must tell someone so that the victims will get justice" said Amadeus. "I will not see my brother Edward hanged" said Evelyn , "how many innocent people are you going to let him murder" said Amadeus , "go away and leave me alone to pick these flowers" said Evelyn , a few moments later Amadeus shook his head and began walking back towards the town.
Then suddenly as he was walking away Amadeus Drake was attacked from behind , it was Edward! , Amadeus tried to shake Edward off but he was to strong , Edward grabbed a knife and slit Amadeus's throat. Blood sprayed and splattered across the grass as Edward stabbed Amadeus over and over again in a frenzy as Evelyn continued to pick some flowers unaware that Edward had just murdered Amadeus Drake , Edward dragged Amadeus's lifeless body through the field towards the cliff , a few moments later Edward threw the body over the edge of the cliff and watched it hit the rocks below and fall into the sea.
Several minutes later...
Edward walked back towards the field and stood beside his sister Evelyn , she turned around and saw Edward's clothes covered in blood , "what have you done!" Said Evelyn. "Amadeus knew to much , he had to be silenced..." Said Edward , "these murder's have to stop Edward , I want you to get some help" said Evelyn , "help from who?" Asked Edward , "I want you to check yourself into Trinity Hale asylum "said Evelyn as she continued to pick some flowers.
"I don't want to go..." said Edward , "the murder's have to stop , please...do it for me" said Evelyn , "never!" Said Edward as he ran away , "a few moments later Evelyn stood up and said , "then you leave me no choice , I'm sorry Edward" thought Evelyn. Ten minutes later Evelyn went to Trinity Hale asylum and talked to a doctor there , "I would like you bring my brother Edward Grey here to the asylum , he's deeply disturbed...he is the one responsible for the murder's" said Evelyn.
"Your brother killed those people! , have you told anyone about this?" asked Doctor Black , "no but I shall have to tell my friend" said Evelyn , Doctor Black asked her a few more questions as he filled out some paperwork a little. "Can you bring him here tomorrow , the sooner you bring him here the sooner the murder's shall stop" said Evelyn , Doctor Black nodded and said "very well a few men of mine and myself will fetch him tomorrow".
"You will most likely find Edward by the river outside town" said Evelyn , Doctor Black thanked her and a few moments later Evelyn had left the asylum and headed towards the north side of the town. She went to her friend's house and knocked on the door , the door opened and she was greeted by her friend Eden Croft , Sarah and Claire's sister , "I need to tell you something Eden" said Evelyn , "ok , what is it" said Eden , Evelyn told her everything about Edward and the murder's.
Eden was in shock after everything Evelyn had just told her , "you have been keeping this secret" said Eden , "yes , everything about Edward and the murder's would ruin my family's reputation" said Evelyn. "Yes I understand that Evelyn" said Eden , "please do not tell anyone else this" said Evelyn , "do not worry I shall keep your secret" said Eden , Evelyn thanked her and sighed with relief , they talked for hours until the sun started to set.
Evelyn left Eden's home and went to the meadow to pick more flowers , the sun slowly set and the meadow was covered in the golden glow of the sunlight. As Evelyn picked some flowers a figure appeared behind her as she hummed a song to herself , suddenly a piece of rope was wrapped around Evelyn's neck tight and the figure strangled her , Evelyn struggled as the rope around her neck tightened , she desperately tried to pull the rope away from her neck so she could breathe.
The figure pulled the rope tighter and harder and then a few moments later Evelyn's arms suddenly dropped by her sides , the figure let go and dragged Evelyn's dead body through the meadow towards the marsh. "No one shall ever know the truth" said the figure as she placed the body on the ground and then dug a hole , the figure pushed Evelyn Grey's body into the hole and then filled it in , "I shall keep your secret safe Evelyn" said Eden Croft as she stood there and looked at the grave.
The next day , October 31st...
Edward Grey was standing by the river staring at his reflection in the water as Doctor Black and a few of his men came towards him and then dragged him away to Trinity Hale asylum just as Evelyn wanted. Meanwhile back at her home Eden Croft sat beside the fireplace , Eden slipped some deadly nightshade into her tea and began to drink it , a few moments later her body began to shake and contort itself a little as the nightshade entered her blood stream , "nobody shall ever know your secret Evelyn" said Eden.
A few moments later as the deadly nightshade burned through her veins Eden had a seizure and her mouth began to foam as she faded away and breathed her last breath...
Meanwhile back in the present day...
"So that is what happened to Evelyn Grey , but how do you know this?" said Rose , the dark figure revealed her face and said "because I am Eden Croft" said the dark figure. "Why tell someone after all these years" said Rose, "I thought you deserved to know" said Eden , "you know I shall tell the townsfolk this" said Rose , "I have spent so long hiding this secret , I cannot rest until the truth is known" said Eden , a few moments later Rose left the house and walked into the center of town and told everyone what really happened to Evelyn Grey.
Later that day they walked to the place where Eden had buried Evelyn's body and dug it up , they moved Evelyn Grey's remains to the church graveyard and reburied her there beside her fellow founder's. Rose stood by Evelyn's grave and said "may you rest in peace now Evelyn" , moments later Rose went back to her home and sat down , suddenly Eden Croft appeared in front of her , "thank you , I can finally move on from this place" said Eden.
Rose nodded and said goodbye to her as Eden began to fade away and then a few moments later she closed her eyes and got some well earned rest.
