Few days back, a collage friend who I've not seen for 4-5 years, pinged me that he is coming to my city and would like to visit my home.
I asked him the purpose of visit, and he gave sheepish reactions and did not disclose that.
I didn't mind it too much.
But,
I'm an introvert by nature and having home a collage friend who I'm not in constant touch with, that too not sure if he would do overnight stays, was something that made me uncomfortable.
However,
He finally came to my home. The night he arrived, he asked me about "XYZ Cafe" which was about 3 km away from my home, also he told me "Next day we will visit there"... I thought he just wanna visit good places here so i agreed.
The next day in the early morning we left for the cafe as we decided and while I was driving he stated sharing many random things, basically we were vibing and recalling our old collage memories and here's come the twist he suddenly asked me
-"Aman do you know why I'm visiting your city?"
- me: No ...but I guess you are in summer vacation so ...
- Nope, actually my long-distance gf is coming to meet me she lives here in "ABCD Place". So I called her in this Cafe.
- Ohh really?!
Now, this was a shocker!! LOL
cause his girlfriend would be accompanying him and dumb me was thinking he came here to visit my home !!
But since I already agreed to have him cafe, I could not say No to him but inner me was little bit afraid cause I just told my mom "We are going to cafe and some of good places here, afterall my friend is a guest"// but now what if she know this haha...
So, they met, spent some odd 3–4 hours and left.
Then I realised.
He very well knew I would object if he had said he is coming to meet with his girlfriend , so had put it off till the last minute.
This is how people be clever and achieve what they want.
They don't really feel shy, ashamed or hesitant to get what they want.
Even if the ask if unfair, they go ahead, ask it and get it.
To deal with these clever people,
You can either mirror them and be relentlessly selfish in getting what you want, not bothering what others would think about you.
.
But if your conscience doesn't allow you to be selfish, just atleast practice the habit of politely saying, "No".
Deny anything clever people propose, if it doesn't seem right to you.
That way, you can avoid being taken advantage of by clever ones.
