Epic Legend

Orthodox Christmas falls on January 7th because many Orthodox Churches still use the older Julian calendar for religious dates, while the rest of the world uses the Gregorian calendar, creating a 13-day difference that places Jesus's birth on January 7th (which is December 25th on the Julian calendar). This difference stems from the Julian calendar's inaccuracy, which Pope Gregory XIII corrected in 1582, but many Orthodox churches retained the traditional Julian calendar for liturgical purposes.
