Have you constantly felt the grass is greener on the other side?
Are you someone who constantly feels convinced that “if only” you could change something about you, about your partner, about something else in your life or get something else that seems perfect infront of you, it would make you perfectly happy.
Do you constantly feel you deserve better or you deserve it more than any other person?
Not sure? Alright let's do a quick check if you have this Syndrome.
(Disclaimer: This checklist is not meant for any mental health diagnosis; purely for awareness purpose ONLY)
5 SIMPLE SIGNS of GIGS (Grass is Greener Syndrome)
1. Excessive Comparison
Do you beat yourself up mercilessly because you’re not where you think you should be in comparison with someone else?
Do you feel your achievements and belongings are not worth as much as another person?
Do you feel you deserve it MORE 'anything/something' than the other person owns/achieved?
2. Avoiding or Running Away from Issues/Argument/Problem
Do you delete and block your contacts as soon as you encounter a problem with them?
Do you constantly feel you suffocated when you encounter a problem & try to be in the denial stage or run away?
Do you frequently play 'VICTIM' or 'MANIPULATE' just to escape from problems?
3. Impulsive Actions
Do you frequently throw words in anger/ make rash decisions when you are angry?
Do you act first before thinking in a stressful environment?
Do you get carried away with words without actions?
4. Commitment Issues
Do you have fear of being trapped in a boring commitment?
Do you constantly admire or like other partners' that are settled and feel your choice is wrong?
Do you have attachment issues? (too attached; never attached)
5. Lack of Gratitude
Do have series of repeated dissatisfaction even if things are going in your way? (maybe the slightest thing ticks you off)
Do you obsess over other people's grass (owning/achievement/etc)?
Do you have trouble feeling blessed?
If you answered yes to many of these questions, then you may be one of them; who always thinks that the grass is greener on the other side.
While it is safe to say every one of us; at one point or the other experienced this syndrome in our lives. (We aint Saints' after all)
But,The reality is also that, the GIG Syndrome can be a serious problem because it will always leave you wanting for more (in a bad manner), always competing and comparing with others, never being satisfied and most importantly it will leave you feeling empty, lonely and eventually feeling worthless.
Forget about the past. Don’t worry about the future. Live today and live it to the fullest. Most of all, stop thinking that the grass is greener, because it never really is (you never know until you are in that situation/ their shoes).
Well until today i am trying to educate myself on this, n im working on myself so that i am happy internally and do not compare with others or try to run away at the first sight of a problem. Still long work ahead, i guess.
Nothing is exactly perfect in this world, learn to be imperfectly perfect.
Have you experienced this, or know someone like this? Share your thoughts.. Remember this is a safe space, no judgements.
