Forgetting Me (Poem I wrote)

People can only get by if we have some sense of hope
But without that how can someone ever manage to cope
You were the one, my hope, but now that you are gone
The sun has set and now I just sit waiting for the dawn
I would be glad to have shared the moments that we had
But it's remembering those times that now drive me mad
The memories I shared with you now haunt my thoughts
Leaving me distraught knowing the past is all we got
I want to rewind time to when we were both together
Before all that ever mattered were moments we shared
You were my only want, my only need and my only care
I sit now remembering your voice and even your scent
Your laugh and your cries, all the time we had spent
Together in each others arms, thinking it will be forever
Not knowing months later we would no longer be together
My mind says to move on, but my heart says to hold on
And that you will return soon, that you're not really gone
But now you have someone new that you see each day
Slowly forgetting me while I just remember you each day
