She shuts the laptop,
the blue light still buzzing behind her eyes.
The day is done...
or at least, the clock says so.
Her body aches for rest,
but her brain is busy...
stacking lists on top of lists,
rewriting old conversations,
wondering if she ever replied.
The fan hums like a lullaby
she’s too restless to hear.
Her phone face down beside her,
still glowing faintly,
like it knows she’ll reach for it again.
Somewhere in the dark,
the house makes its quiet night noises,
as if it’s already dreaming.
She flips the pillow to the cool side
and stares at the wall,
thinking about how tomorrow
she’ll go to bed earlier..
the same lie she’s told for years.
