1. You gain serious credibility without asking for it: Credibility for being courageous to speak your mind, for having the guts to put yourself out there on any topic under the sun, and publishing those thoughts because you believe them to be valuable nuggets to the world. Not a common trait among common humans.
2. You show up on Google searches: One casual Friday this year, a BBC World Service reporter sent me an email to see if I can be put on their career discussion panel. I was sure it’s a joke! She was for real and found me via organic search online. I went on BBC the next morning, and talked to Julian Marshall himself. One of many happy occasions of being found in Google.
3. You get noticed by old friends, distant relatives, ex-bosses and colleagues: People who haven’t spoken to you in ages come out of the wood works, and it’s not like you won the lottery, no darling, it’s because you have a blog. Like all of a sudden, you are important, or worthy of notice. It’s kinda nice.
4. You make leaps and bounds of personal growth: There is nothing like a blog for having an impetus for deep personal growth. From confidence building to motivation for doing more with your life, from looking inward for answers to questioning your career path, you peel layer after layer of growth just by sheer act of maintaining a consistent heart-felt blog.
5. You become a better writer: We are all writers. We write. In today’s age, who doesn’t write something sometime during their work? But when you write your blog posts, you push your writing, you push your communication skills, and you connect with people through your writing. It has no choice but to get better over practice.
And remember: Writing is the essence of all wealth!
