What is the reason for owning 5 smartphone brands?
BBK Electronics have basically understood the Indian smartphone market and thereby come up with brands that cater to all segments namely: the top-end, the mid-end, and low-end segments. Their strategy to create independent brands has gone a long way for them, and we can see from all these brands' performance in India.
How are the brands different?
Oppo and Vivo as brands try to appeal to the low and mid-end segments of users. They have phones in the mid-price range spectrum (Although Vivo is now trying to gain some market in the high-end segment too).
Realme, a spin-off brand from Oppo which was founded just in 2018, and we have already seen such a huge rise in its user base. They wanted to compete head-to-head with Redmi by providing value for money, and this actually worked out well for them. Today, Realme is usually considered a good alternative for Redmi phones.
On the other hand, the OnePlus is popular in the premium segment. This is also based on a great strategy. It tries not just to compete with premium phones in Android but also wants to position itself as a direct competitor to iPhones. As Indian consumers are soo price-conscious, OnePlus tries to provide excellent value for money at half the price of its premium competitors. This is also why they have a cult-like following (including me!)
Now, their newest release, iQOO was a subsidiary of Vivo. However, it has been released as an independent brand in India specifically targeted towards gaming and other performance-intensive tasks. This brand is again considered to create a great phone that doesn’t cause a hole in your pocket. We are yet to see how popular it would get, and whether it can compete with other flagship phones.
